Community Teacher Beats 7-Year-Old with Metal Ruler, Says “Let Her Die” , Mother Files Police Report

A case of child abuse has emerged in Chonburi province, where a 7-year-old girl was allegedly beaten by her teacher using a metal ruler, prompting her mother to file a formal complaint with the police. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and concern over the safety of students in schools.

 

On 29 May, Police Sub-Lieutenant Kittiphot Iampraphai of Nong Prue Police Station received a report from Ms Janpen “Dao” Yutthahan, 25, who was accompanied by her young daughter, a Primary 2 student. Ms Janpen told police that her daughter had suffered bruises to her arm and back after being assaulted by her teacher.

 

The abuse allegedly occurred on 22 May. Ms Janpen became aware of the situation when her daughter complained of arm pain while changing clothes for a bath. She then discovered visible bruising on the child’s left arm and back. Upon questioning, the child revealed that the teacher had struck her multiple times with a metal foot ruler and hit her in the back, citing “disobedience” as the reason for the punishment.

 

Despite Ms Janpen’s attempts to raise the issue with the school, she was unable to meet with the principal and only spoke to other teachers. No progress was made, and distressingly, the violence continued. The same teacher allegedly hit the child again and told her, “Let her die right here,” a statement that left the young girl terrified.

 

Ms Janpen also disclosed that the same teacher had reportedly used similar violent methods on other students, though most parents were too afraid to come forward.

 

The police have recorded the complaint and confirmed that a full investigation is now underway.

This again in the news, and wondering how many times it happens and not reported. As I've stated before, I had to talk to my daughter's school supervisor to have one teacher there stop hitting the students with sticks. After the second time it seems to have stopped, as my daughter said it has. In the US, you're fired and banned from teaching again, which is another thing Thailand should adopt from the west.

Some go into the profession precisely because they are sadistic bullies.  The trick is to discover it, sack them and let the law take its course.

Why wasn't the teacher immediately suspended pending an immediate police investigation?

I trust other parents feel empowered come forward with evidence of abuse 

If proven teacher needs to charged and held without bail, on conviction banned from having anything to with children for life.

Poor girl. Horrible treatment. I thought the beating of children in Thailand had been banned by law.  It brings back memories of my school days, a long time ago. We were regularly beaten, from the age of eight, with canes or, for minor offences, with slippers. I've always felt there is something seriously wrong with any teacher who inflicts such punishments.

I struggle with this too.  As primary school students a few of us suffered at the hands of a bullying teacher who used to grab me by the back of the hair.  I never said anything until one day my mother noticed the redness on my scalp whilst cutting my hair.

 

The following day, she didn't bother going to the head teacher/principal and all 4'11" of her just marched straight into the classroom, grabbed the near 6' teacher in the exact same fashion and marched him outside in front of all of us, where she proceeded to tell him the way that it would go if he continued.

 

It was strange to see this as my mother was one of the most gentle, forgiving persons in the world and until then I had never heard her raise her voice, let alone use physical force against anyone.  Needless to say the bullying stopped before my father got to hear about it.

It amazes me as to just complacent the parents of these children are. When I was at school had something like this happened and the teacher would have gone into hiding.

Sack the teacher immediately, and haul it before the courts for repeated physical abuse - no ifs or buts!!!

 

This has apparently happened a few times before and parents are "scared to come forward" - Disgaraceful state of affairs and the fact that the parent was "unable to speak with the principal" and the violence continued absolutely stinks.

 

Some of these teachers just seem to be bullies or legalised thugs - a bit like bouncers at night clubs but worse - they are assaulting CHILDREN for goodness sake!

 

When I was at school in the UK many years ago, corporal punishment was still used, but only rarely, and the punishment was carried out by the Head or Assistant Head of the school if it was deemed an appropriate punishment - known in those days as "six of the best", and only on the "bum"!

Unfortunately in Thailand “rumor” is the key word…

They have laws but the only laws that really rule are “money” and “anything” to save face…
