One could easily argue that the decline started happening 30 to 40 years ago, what is happening today is that Trump is precipitating the decline in a rather spectacular manner. So rather than making "America great again" as he loves to say he is diminishing American influence worldwide, and he is alienating the vast majority of the planet and destroying American industry, prestige, and tourism in the process. 

 

At least now I no longer have to explain to people why America is not nearly as great as they think it is.
