SCB, no more exemption from facial recognition in app

Featured Replies

Ok so I got the same notification as everyone. Signed a waiver before that got canceled

Went to the SCB Branch for them just to call the call center for me. In the end there is no face recognition for foreigner with passport accounts  🙂

When I showed my pink ID card she was excited though but the problem is they can’t change the account to the pink ID card when you opened it with a passport nor can you open another account. Even closing and opening a new ones doesn’t work lol 😂

everytime over 50k now call the call center or in the branch. A no go for me I will leave this account for now and use other banks but reading here it seems all have problems now?

I can confirm though UOB has higher limits and face recognition works maybe it’s because they out of Singapore originally ? I transfer often over 150-200k in one transaction there with face scan via the app

just visited my SCB branch today to address this notice.  They did not know anything about this change but were helpful in that they contacted SCB HQ and HQ was able to clarify it for us.  Here is my

  • Just closed both accounts. They tell me that they can not Install facial recognition for foreigners. Useless, avoid.   Now cross my fingers that Kasikorn will not make similar move

So SCB cancelled their exemption, and aren't even able to activate facial recognition.

On the other hand I just receive a message from UOB, your request for exemption of facial recognition has been approved.

I didn't even request for it.

So looks to me that SCB are just a bunch of incompetents.

What banks currently works for foreginers with face scan?

For me Bangkok Bank and UOB work. Kasikorn and SCB do not work.

Good evening I also received that sms.

Did the call center tell you that you can go to the branch and scan yr face?

Same as you my KrungSri face scan works for me.

SGB don't asks it at all.

Went to branch and they can't do it for foreginers.

Also now my TTB bank got same limits and it says they start collecting faces at branches on 12 July tho might go there to be told sorry foreginers can not.

KrungSri is another one that works, it's got 700k per transfer up to 2m a day.

I just saw the TTB notice in my app today also.

As you mention, apparently need to visit a branch to give biometrics starting 12/7. Not entirely clear from their blurb what will happen after this is done…

Not uncommon (couple of times a month) that I will be transferring >50k, don’t really want to be messing around with multi-day installments.

This is clearly a BoT/government regulation so for those suggesting changing banks, good luck with that.

U can't do multi transfers in TTB as its now 49 999 daily limit lol. I just did one and it's over. Other apps it's 200k day. TTB 50k day

It's 50k per transfer and 500k day in ATM

Only with biometric facescanning in one of their branches.

I transferred 1.88 million THB today from my UOB  account, worked like a charm

I was in my SCB branch in early August and the teller told me they hope to have worked out the facial recognition for foreigners within this year. Still not clear why other Thai banks have been doing this for some months, but SCB still can't sort it.

Just bring in cash on each stay,  for those who do not stay full time in this lovely advanced country.

i am just now transferring / draining out my money in my Thai bank ,next comings to Thailand only 6 month's divided in 2 period  of  3 month (90 day) , by E-Visa Non O  02 , easy received in 4 working day by email this time , need only value of 800K Thb in My HOME Bank ......no need anymore to keep a Thai bank or a lease 1 Year or  6 month's ( if i.o.accept this)

And carry my 9999 euros cash and just exchange by needs ....

I do not take their Banking Buxxsxit ...😉

PS : i was a happy Kasikorn client and Ret. Ext. for 14 years untill 2022

never used an agent ....the money was my own

( However by Non O  02  from Embassy ....."agent using not possible that route " )....this way you need your own Value 800K Thb in home bank to show with bank statement ..... NO Seasoning needed !!

Spoke to the call centre about a separate issue the other day but at the end asked the question. They said they had no idea when it would happen and weren't being told.

The guy I spoke to was aware of the Bangkok Bank issues so hopefully no repeat with SCB in the future.

Good question for SCB.  I would hope that there will be no fees since we (foreigners) do not have any other options within SCB.

At Kasikorn it cost 1490Thb , 36.9 Euro each 50K Thb part (as i transfer to myself Home bank an pay 5the costs in full as i send to myself ," draining my KK account "...., so count how profitable this "limitation " is for those pooor Thai banks ....🙄

Some more changes apparently coming.

New notification appeared on my app in the last week saying that from 20th September daily limits will be adjusted.

 See pic

According to a guy in CS who I have just spoken to this is going to be similar to other banks where the daily limit will be adjusted based probably on your history and then you will probably need to provide extra information to get them adjusted - did not say anything about being frozen but he admitted they don't get told exactly what is happening.

SCBcrop.jpg.5d8740c33ae4fe2c82822641c001f97e.jpg

He also said this is also being driven by BOT requirements.

So SCB account holders be prepared for some potential disruption.........

It gets worse. When you clink on that link it brings up the following and potentially an issue for retirees wanting to increase the limits due to the documents requested.

As Thailand Bank's limit ....so do i also limit the amount i go  keep on my Thai KK bank for future visits . Just take in the amount under the allowed ,free  not to declare 9999 Euros for 3 month's  NON O 02 , it is enough to risk from now on .....ON B.O.T.new  regulated Thai banking system ....

Reserve as always on C.C.

I guess we have to wait until the 20th Sep (note planned maintenance on 20 and 21 Sep) to find out what our daily limits are?

I wonder if those will be reflected in the mobile app, Settings, Manage personal limit automatically?

Not much hope indeed , as i asked on Kasikorn higher limit , and received the standard answer , that present limits are my best ..... so i started transferring day by day Out to Home country Bank again now , as i just in June filled up for plans Ret Ext. ......but seeing what became of Thailand after i left for # years after 14 years stay ..... i let it pass and changed to my 2x 90 (3 month's) days E visa  Non o 02 easy to get in home country

Lucky me that i have no anchors here , no condo anymore , no Th. wife/ GF... no business ,but i understand that this is not a happy situation  for those with a family here .... no other choice than swallow it ...., sad !

What i see and hear now in Thailand ....does not resemble the " Paradise "before

And as a bonus you get Anutin.... 🫢

Sorry, I dont understand your posts. Way too much drama in them. Aren't we just talking about app limits on a bank account, that may or may not be revised anyway? Its not imminent war or pestilence, nor has Lucifer risen in Thailand to destroy farrangkind.

That is how i feel it in my "back bone "...., but let it you not scare , each at their own , but 95% of my KK shall be drained day by day completed almost now ( yes you can Int. transfer daily 50K i can testify that it works ...), the limit revision you are hoping on was already standard type rejected when asked , BUT they did not rejected in June 28000 euro Transferring IN to Thailand ..... and then also i was 65+ ....(77 ):whistling:

Lesson learned ....found my way already as mentioned

Good luck to you sir ....

Limiting MY money handling ...., no B.O.T  can not happen

If SCB, in common with all other Thai banks, are being forced by the BOT to limit their account holders to online transfers and payments totalling ฿50,000.00 per day, this IMHO begs the question as to why they are still insisting on facial recognition - at presumably the BOT's behest, once again. Or might the BOT's intention be that each and every online transaction and payment valued at between ฿0.01 and ฿50,000.00 inclusive be subject to this facial recognition verification nonsensical procedure?

I love the Catch-22 banking.

1) Must use facial recognition to make transfers.
2) Farangs can't use facial recognition.

You may want to consider where you are posting before adding another irrelevant post. This thread is about SCB.

Everyone on here pretty much knows that the other banks have it but SCB for some reason has failed to implement although it should be coming soon.................apparently............

Just answering this Catch-22 post  as not naming any bank in special .

But do not get nervous ,as the face scan is for transactions over 50 K ...which anyway can not be done because the limitation   , i keep them just under 50K so no need to do a face scan
