That poor kids life is screwed now, kidney disease,  he probably will need a kidney transplant now  or dialysis

Fortunately, the student’s kidney damage is currently manageable, with doctors closely monitoring the situation.

So from this you conclude that dialysis or a transplant will probably be needed.

Hi. I have the opposite case from France two days ago:

Here is why punishment from teacher is good because in western countries look what happened in a French high-school:

The supervisor stabbed by a student near the Françoise Dolto secondary school in Nogent (Haute-Marne) has died from her injuries.

From breaking news BFMTV

What a stupid comment. A 14 yr old stabbed to death a teacher ( not his) for a small telling off by another teacher for snogging his girlfriend in the hall.

Apparently the boy has an aversion to any type of authority. .So I don’t know what your point is. You think you should let kids run loose and do what they want ? Corporal punishment is forbidden in the UK and most  countries.
But kids need to be controlled in a proper way.

200 ? That's one hell of a lot of squats. Even when young and very fit in the army, I couldn't have managed that many in a single session. I'm all for teachers and parents using discipline, but that many squats is ridiculous. No wonder it caused injury.

Whatever the reason, corporal punishment is against the law. Lucky it wasn't my son as this teacher would now be xxx...

This teacher should be taken away quietly and taught a severe lesson literally. I definitely would if it is my son. No Thai education is worth dying for.

I didn't know doing too many squats could be that dangerous.

Depends on the person doing the squats, how they were monitored, if at all, and whether the squatter was given water or not in this heat? I get the impression this was done in a class room or other place out of general view, or there may have been questions asked had another teacher seen this punishment?

Teaching is a noble profession that brings upon the next generation.
For some teachers, it is not a calling but  is just a job that bring food to the table .

Sadly there are nutters everywhere and the teaching profession is not immune to this. This person needs to have their teaching license revoked as I'm pretty sure this would be just one incident in a list of many.

Indeed... but sadly this is quite accepted and has reached the news on a couple of occasions in recent years....

November 2024 - Eighth Grade (Selaphum district, Roi Et Province) The student 'Lalida' was made to perform 100 squat jumps as punishment for forgetting her badminton racquet. She developed rhabdomyolysis, suffered muscle breakdown and kidney stress; was unable to walk and bedridden for several days.

July 2024 - a 15-year-old high school student in Kanchanaburi was forced by a teacher to perform 200 squat jumps as punishment for skipping class. The student suffered severe leg pain, developed Myofascial Pain Syndrome, and required two surgeries conducted in August 2024

Oh come on.

In my day it was a free for all. Teachers were regularly drunk in the lounge, and violence was an everyday thing in the classroom.

You just learned to roll with the punches literally.

Kids are just too mollycoddled these days.

I agree too many spoiled brats these days in many countries.

But teachers were drunk at school and pinched students?

Which country is it about?

200 squats, resulting in kidney issues and severe muscle breakdown

Too many people these days with hereditary issues.

Poor DNA, inferior genes, these are the outcomes

200 squats was a task done before every breakfast where come from

ManUp people 😡

1 squat after breakfast for me. Sometimes before. Sometimes more than one depending on previous nights beer consumption.

I also felt alarming level of reduced fitness among Thai youth.

Little or no habit of walk in their daily life. Unthinkably addicted to motorcycle ride all the time, even for very short distance.

Weakened legs lead to the overall depletion of their health.

Dehydration is a good guess. I know that can hurt your kidneys for sure.

The schools think more highly of the Teachers than the students.

My kid was hit and constantly threatened by an Art teacher, we managed to only have this violent puny man demoted from a head teacher position & lose all his privileges for only one month.

Schools and parents must do a number on Thai kids. They're so much more withdrawn and unassertive than Americans for example.

Shouldn't a normal healthy person be able to do 200 squats? Pretty sure the student had some underlying disease

no they shouldn't ,,    and what if said student was an overwieght marshmellow who never did a hint of any exercise ..    10 would probably

overload the muscles ..    how about  ...was he dehydrated to start .. forced to carry a load ? ..  wide or narrow stance ?  cadence ? ... form ?

a normal ....    healthy person ..  that does not exercise,,   can't  do a lot of "seamingly"  basic exercise's without causing trauma to the body ....

Drop and give us 20 !  ( and use proper form ! )

Two hundred sounds like a lot to me. Most kids that age would struggle to do half that number these days. because most spend too much time on their screens.

Here's how many, according to a recent article in the New York Post, you should be able to do at different stages of your life.

  • 20s: 50 nonstop bodyweight squats, or 10 squats holding 40% to 50% of your body weight
  • 30s and 40s: 50 nonstop bodyweight squats, or 10 squats holding 50% to 60% of your body weight
  • 50s: 40 nonstop bodyweight squats, or 10 squats with 40% to 50% of your body weight
  • 60s: 30 nonstop bodyweight squats, or 10 squats holding 30% of your body weight
  • 70s and up: 20 nonstop bodyweight squats, or 10 squats with 20% of your body weight

https://nypost.com/2025/04/30/health/how-many-squats-you-should-be-able-to-do-at-every-age/#:~:text=That said%2C Collins says a,60% of your body weight

They do, but any sort of violence is a big No! No!

You were, I would have punched the teachers lights out.

When I was about 14 years old a teacher tried to belt me in front of the class, I refused to hold out my hand, I was no angel, but in this instance I was 100% innocent. The teacher tried to grab my hand so I pushed him up against the wall, I was as tall as he was and he was really startled.

To cut a long story short, it ended up with both of us going back in to the classroom.

The family will pay money to the teacher and/or administration, and that will be that.

Quite common in LOS.

You can put your head in the sand and ignore it.

But..

The daughter at university in Buriram and the teachers have money boxes on thier desks.

And yes you have to contribute.

Plus assignments that require extra payments that obviously go in the money box.

Pay or fail..

Add teachers that teach subjects with no reference to what's set in exams.

Sub scale payments to less than academic qualified teachers..

As others said.

Nobody fails..
