Here's what prison does.  It separates the dregs from polite society.  After someone's been convicted 3 or 4 or 17 times, it's not a matter of punishment or rehabilitation.  It becomes a simple warehousing issue.  Or at least it should.

Personally, I don't care his politics and motivations. Just hope the surviving victims recover fully, and if he is indeed the criminal, a short walk to a hangman's noose for him.

Other than Guantanamo Bay, an area under US control, I can't see this happening on a wide scale in the USA. Maybe it has happened. Maybe it still does. You can bet, though, any public announcement by Trump wouldn't fly in the courts.  Even under martial law, I'm pretty sure Trump couldn't get away with it.
