Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsuthin spearheaded a surprise raid on 20 cannabis shops in Bangkok yesterday. The operation discovered illicit sales of jelly and chocolates infused with unapproved cannabis, following a directive from Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to halt illegal drug distribution.

During the inspection, two shops in Sukhumvit Soi 33/1 were caught selling cannabis-infused products without FDA approval. The shops, Buddha’s Kush Street and Cannabis X, are now under scrutiny.

Way2weed (W2W) failed to provide a proper operations report, resulting in a temporary suspension of their licence for seven days.

Authorities are testing these products to ensure the THC content doesn’t exceed the legal limit of 0.2%. If the products do surpass this threshold, further charges will be pursued.

Since the decriminalisation of marijuana last year, regulations require shops to report client use to control youth exposure to drugs.

This enforcement aligns with efforts to combat the distribution of psychotropic substances such as Rohypnol and Kratom leaves.

Although some speculate about political motivations behind the raids, Minister Somsak affirmed that the actions are unrelated to the recent political reshuffle.

Cannabis-related enterprises have had to navigate legal challenges since Thailand loosened restrictions. Any violation of these regulations could mean severe repercussions for businesses in the sector.

The situation remains under observation as authorities continue to enforce compliance with the law to ensure public safety and uphold health standards.

Thais just can'r help themselves.

Time for the weed addicts to come out and defend their right to fill the air with the abhorrent smell of their sad habit and to moan about the imaginary smell of stale beer in the streets, that only they can smell.🤪

As too many "infused" chocolate bon bons and jellies can cause cavities,

the Thai Dental Council has been asked to set standards for weed "infused" toothpaste.

What an utterly ridiculous waste of police time.

Did they also check the jars on the counter to make sure they conformed to the legal limit?

Will this exercise be repeated across the many thousands of shops (sorry medical dispensaries) in the country?

Kratom is already legal isn't it?

How the f**k did rohypnol get mixed up in this daft statement? I've never heard it mentioned it in connection with Thailand before. Semi-comotose women are available for less than the cost of this noxious substance.

Rohypnol is seen in the newspaper reports of rapes and attacks on people.

Well said!!

Uphold the law, I thought a law was recently passed where they were only allowed to sell medicinal cannabis with a doctors script or did Anutin manage to have that overturned??

True, but this post is about Cannabis Infused sweets and jellies - why not bring in LSD , Cocaine, Meth Amphtamine, and all other "hypnotic" drugs while you're at it?

Didn’t happen.

The current law is very different for extracts that would be in edibles  .2 percent would mean no high at all. Only people looking for just cbd would buy that. They're actually enforcing the current law.

This is about edibles silly!

I'm surprised they can mention the real name of the shops...

I just calculated, an average gummy with 3 gram and the legal 0.2% THC contains 6 mg THC. Enough to feel an effect already, even you just eat one piece. Shops selling edibles over that limit are just dumb IMO.

That's not how it's measured.

.2 no high at all.

How else is it measured then. Please explain

Gummies are cooked with ingredients.

Cannabis oil is one of those ingredients.

I'll paste this in:

A measurement of .2 THC in cannabis oil indicates that there are 0.2 milligrams of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) per specified amount of the oil, which is a very low concentration. This low level of THC suggests that the oil may not produce significant psychoactive effects.

The very clear intent of the Thai law on cannabis OIL is for medical use only, and never to obtain a high.

That law is very different than for flowers.

If a shop is selling edibles that get you high and I assume most do there is no flippin' way that is .2 THC!

From the article @Jingthing

0.2% THC of the finished products.

Example, a bag with 100 grams of gummies could contain up to 200 mg of THC

As someone who has casually enjoyed weed for 27 years, and unfortunately alcohol for the same amount of time, we can definitely smell that stale beer.  Not only on the breath, but where it's in high concentration.  And of course, people who are really drunk are vastly more misbehaved and get into violence by leaps and bounds (ie: alcohol way way way more of a sad habit, and actually addictive).

Personally, I don't mind having to get a prescription card if necessary.  But taking away edibles is just silly.  I can make a cookie last 5 nights to help me sleep, with one little nibble each evening. No smoke, no smell, no bothering anyone.

as oppossed to ....

Can alcohol affect your sense of smell?
Several scientific papers assume that long-term drinkers as found in those with an addiction problem, experience significant, even permanent, loss or inhibition of their senses. To date, researchers have shown deterioration in eyesight, smell, taste, and coordination in people who frequently drink too much alcohol.
Does alcohol affect your body's smell?
Alcohol triggers chemical reactions in the body producing diacetic acid and acetaldehyde, both of which cause a distinct smell.
and............  don't forget
"Beer muscles" is a humorous term, not a real physical condition. It refers to a large belly that some people associate with excessive beer drinking, implying it's a result of the beer rather than actual muscle growth. It can also refer to an aggressive attitude developed after drinking
