Bangkok Expressway Horror: Biker Appears Asleep Before Crash

A dramatic incident unfolded on a Bangkok expressway when a motorcyclist, who appeared to have fallen asleep while riding, crashed into the rear of a slow moving tanker. Despite the seriousness of the collision, the rider escaped with only minor injuries and was admitted to hospital for overnight observation.

The crash occurred on a stretch of the expressway where motorcycles are strictly prohibited. Eyewitnesses reported that the rider seemed drowsy or unconscious as he continued riding in a almost straight line, ignoring repeated horn blasts and warnings from surrounding vehicles.

The incident came to public attention through a widely circulated video clip on social media, which showed the motorcyclist travelling at speed, seemingly unaware of his surroundings, before ploughing into the back of a tanker. The footage has since sparked widespread concern and debate online.

According to the uploader of the clip, the rider appeared visibly dazed and unresponsive, further fuelling speculation that he may have fallen asleep while riding. Emergency responders arrived swiftly on the scene and the man was taken to a nearby hospital. Doctors later confirmed he had suffered only minor injuries.

In response to the incident, social media users voiced concern not only about the rider’s condition but also about the apparent failure in enforcement that allowed a motorcycle to access the expressway in the first place.

Suphirada Wattanayothin, one of many commenting on the incident, wrote: “Something must have been wrong from the start. Entering an expressway on a motorcycle shows poor judgment. If he fell asleep, it’s no different to a driver nodding off and veering into the side of the road. By the time you realise, it’s too late.”

While authorities have not yet released an official statement, the case has reignited debate over driver fatigue, mental alertness, and the need to uphold expressway regulations.

For now, many online have expressed relief that the incident did not end in tragedy. One widely shared comment simply read: “Wishing him a swift recovery.”

He lives to sleep another day

Strong head or strong helmet ? 🤔

Rule #1. When driving a motorcycle never fall asleep. It takes a high level of alertness to drive a motorcycle or a scooter in Thailand and remain safe. What can one even say?

I watched this yesterday - and was incredulous at how such an accident is possible...

... Such total lack of self preservation is so often displayed here by motorcyclists in Thailand.

I wasn't much of a toker, preferring booze.  But the times I did partake, I'd have fought you for a nap, no matter what else was going on.

I'd bet this is a cannabis story.

Not a scratch, I guess. But I was not there to witness the accident.

Head made of Wood most likely !

How did they know he was asleep? He wasn't using his phone?

I wonder why someone was filming him well before the collision.

Didn't the article say he was in a stretch of road where no motorcycles were allowed?

Maybe that is why.

I admit I missed that, so it could explain it.

Thanks.
