Canadian Man Caught Smuggling Heroin Hidden in Women’s Handbags at Airport

They were already taking photos of him checking in, and about to go through baggage check. A tip off, perhaps.

Most likely. It’s definitely not due to the size of his baggage, as mentioned above. A difference of 3 kg doesn’t significantly affect the size of any luggage.

Thai customs officers at Suvarnabhumi Airport have arrested a Canadian national attempting to smuggle over three kilograms of heroin cleverly concealed in women’s handbags. The man, who was en route to Taiwan, now faces serious drug trafficking charges under the law.

The arrest took place on the morning of 30 June, after customs officials became suspicious of the man’s luggage due to its unusual weight and bulkiness. An X-ray scan revealed suspicious items consistent with narcotics, prompting authorities to conduct a detailed inspection.

Inside the suitcase, officers discovered several brown and black women’s handbags, along with ordinary clothing and shoes. A closer inspection of the suitcase’s internal walls revealed grey fabric packages wrapped in black tape. These packages, once opened, were found to contain carbon paper and clear plastic bags filled with white powder, which later tested positive for heroin.

Further inspection of the two handbags revealed even more heroin. Officials noticed fresh stitching on the sides of the bags, which appeared unusually thick. After cutting into the lining, they discovered additional grey packages, also containing heroin.

The total weight of the seized narcotics was 3,235 grams with an estimated street value of over 1 million baht.

The Canadian suspect was preparing to board a China Airlines flight from Bangkok to Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan. He has been charged with attempting to smuggle Category 1 narcotics (heroin) out of the country. The case has been handed over to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau for further investigation, including inquiries into any broader trafficking network.

A spokesperson for Thailand’s Customs Department revealed that between October 2024 and 30 June 2025, officers have intercepted heroin in 28 separate cases, totalling nearly 98 kilograms in seizures.

Three plus kilos of heroin is worth only 1 million baht? Is that realisic? I thought it would be worth much more.

Buy it !

I definitely understand the allure of quick cash, but there has to be a limit to the amount of risk that one is willing to take in order to gain it. This just seems like way too high a risk for the potential reward. I can't even imagine what he's facing at this point but it's got to be at least a decade or two in a Thai prison.

I don't know about you guys, but I don't think I'd last a month in a Thai prison.

Oversized, bulky luggage?? They ain't seen my wife going on a trip! (Talking about the luggage, not my wife!)

Doesn't look like much in the photos

Silly man. But now it`s too late.

He might want to try to wear a neck bracelet and an arm and leg cask. Chances are good he`ll get a room with a view at the police hospital😊

What other reasons could there be?

Personal use of course🤪

You don't need to smuggle heroin into Canada you can just go to Canada and scrape it off the bloody streets

My impression is he was flying out of suk.  Too bad immigration should flag these morons and let Taiwan punish.

Bound to happen with a Canuck that had too much Thailand

My thinking is why not let Canada punish as I think he was transitting in Taipei.

This as I have taken many different airlines BKK-Taipei and then transit there as many direct flights to North America including Toronto originate there.......EVA Air still operates direct to Toronto daily and my guess is he was heading home!!

He will wish he made it and caught there.......very soon!!!

I-D-I-O-T !!!!

Silly Canadian.  He should have kiestered it.

1.5 Kg of heroin and would have easily fit, based-on the bagginess of his shorts.

Do you speak from experience?

Maybe he got the stuff in Thailand..anyway rather him than me!

The truth is stranger than fiction. Must be some kind of back story.

Could be that bloke on here complaining that his long distance relationship with his Thai "GF" is costing too much.

A free pass to Taiwan.

Obviously not.

He could say to the judge that it was for personal use only... That will work ..

Sorry, I meant to say what other credible reason could there be.

First, a gram of heroin is only 300 baht in Thailand?

And secondly, this older fellow decided to risk the rest of his life behind bars for 1 million baht?

None of this makes sense to me!

He didn't volunteer to place it through the x-ray, He would have been told to put it through.
