Accident Tragic Phuket Crash Claims Life of Filipina Tourist, Injures Others

A tragic road accident in Phuket has resulted in the death of a Filipina woman, Joy Tarroza Divinagracia, and left several others injured after an SUV collided with motorbikes in a devastating pile-up.

 

The incident occurred around 8:22 p.m. on June 30 in Kalim, just north of Patong, involving five vehicles, including two motorbikes and three cars.

 

Joy, 40, was a passenger on a blue Honda PCX160 motorbike ridden by 34-year-old local Phonlaphas Nukrohchip, who also suffered injuries.

 

Investigators reported that a white Honda HR-V, driven by 26-year-old Kritsana Kadam from Krabi, initiated the crash by colliding with two motorbikes and additional vehicles. Kritsana had two foreign passengers, including Jay-Ar Navida, another Filipino, who escaped unharmed.

 

Other injured individuals included:

 

• Kanyanat Phanumas, 24, from Nakhon Si Thammarat, on a motorbike.
• Chukwan Prajikkit, 55, from Chumphon, as her passenger.
• An unidentified female on Phonlaphas's motorbike.
• Ratchadaporn Boonjing, 33, a passenger in a Toyota Hilux Revo from Chiang Rai.

 

All were taken to Patong Hospital for treatment.

 

Police confirmed that Kritsana tested negative for alcohol and drugs at the scene. He was arrested and charged with reckless driving causing death and injury, according to Thai law.

 

“We have informed the Philippine Embassy about the fatality,” stated the police, noting the ongoing investigation to determine the crash’s full circumstances.

 

Authorities are collecting evidence and witness statements to piece together the event details. They urge motorists to be cautious, especially during the rainy season when road conditions are hazardous.
