Ive had a Volvo hybrid for 4 yrs now and perhaps getting a bit bored with it. It has amazing safety features that have saved me from several accidents; namely 1. Collision avoidance: If travelling under 50km/hr the car will auto stop / prevent rear ending the car in front 2. Auto stopping when reversing. ie if reversing from angle parking and a car is driving right behind the volvo will automatically stop to prevent collision

I saw the Ranger Stormtrak promo. It has the same 2 safety features as above. 1.4 million. I can sell my volvo for 1mill. But the ranger only has 202 horse power. ie no balls. Its a 2.0L bi turbo 4x4 10AT. My volvo has 504 horse power and extremely fast. So much so that Im getting a lot of 500 baht tickets when on the autobahn.

So maybe the slower truck would be good for me to be honest.

Its a hard decision to make. Going backwards in the brand of a car. I suppose I can always go back to high end cars after 3 or 4 yrs of having the Ranger.

Do you know any other pickup trucks with the same safety and 4WD?

thanks

Thanks for telling me about it. I looked at the spec. It seems its pure electric not hybrid? ie only battery charging? I currently have hybrid and like the flexibility of petrol and electric. If it was hybrid I would go for it.

The BYD Shark is a hybrid, though a bit pricier than both the others.  Still pretty sporty, 5.7 secs

I haven't peeked at it though, as not a fan of hybrids.  At leas its a PHEV, and battery should be more than enough for all local driving.

The BYD Shark 6 AWD (also referred to as the Shark 6 DMO) is priced at 1,699,900 Thai Baht in Thailand.

Here's a breakdown:

Price: 1,699,900 Thai Baht

Type: Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV).

Platform: Built on BYD's DMO (Dual Mode Off-road) platform.

Engine: 1.5T engine with dual electric motors.

Drivetrain: AWD (All-Wheel Drive).

Battery: Blade Battery with 29.58 kWh capacity.

Electric Range: Up to 100 km (NEDC).

Total Range: Up to 840 km (with fuel).

0-100 km/h: 5.7 seconds.

Key Features: Off-road capabilities with 4 modes (Mud, Sand, Snow, Mountain).

Import: CBU (Completely Built-Up) from China.

Warranty: 6 years/150,000 km for the vehicle, 8 years/160,000 km for the battery.

Other: Also supports VtoL (Vehicle to Load) for external power.

Looks good but 17" tires, which looks like low profile on a truck?

I will have to go and ask them if these ones have the anti collision front and rear as above.

I don't know if you really need a truck? Do you have a business for carrying huge loads of Durian, pineapples etc? Or transporting your garbage somewhere?

Or is it just the cheaper price and lower tax and insurance???

Also considering buying a Stormtrak to replace my Honda Jazz. Can't decide between 2x4 and 4x4.

We have a 2018 Ford Ranger Wildtrak with the Bi-Turbo engine and 10-speed automatic.  I have over 140,000 km on it.  It looks new and goes like it's new.  It's not a sports car, but it's not slow either.  Remember that horse power is often lower in diesels, but torque is higher, torque is what you need to get off the line and for passing.  Mine has 213 HP, BUT 500 nm of torque.  We have been very happy with our Ranger.  When it's time to replace it, we'll buy either a new Ranger or a new Everest.  Good luck with you decision.

Im not a car guy at all. A member posted above:

So do you think that the stormtrak will also have some balls on the road or not? It seems to be the same spec. Whats the diff between these models? Is it only the shape? thanks
