Submarine Saga: Phumtham Greenlights Thai Navy’s Chinese Sub Purchase

Featured Replies

The potential problems are crystal clear!

1.  The Chinese engine.

2.  Instruction all in Thai?

3.  Comes complete with six month's training, (at least).

3.  Includes a Maintenance schedule - in Thai? - Hmn!

4   training to dive the submarine?

5.  Training to bring it to the surface.

6.  Clear location ..Gulf of Thailand?

7.  Volunteers or Conscripted crew?

8.  Backhanders during every step of the way.

9. any others? I'm getting bored....

  • PM sidelined....then Phumtham gives the go ahead for billions in spending on useless submarines!  You just can't make this stuff up!

  • What sort of discount (if any) did they get for accepting Chinese engines instead of German? Couldn't cancel the order; too many envelopes already distributed and spent. Chinese engines should be good

  • These will be a great attraction on Childrens' Day moored next to the aircraft carrier that has no planes and is too expensive to take out in the bay for a spin.  It would be much cheaper for the taxp

My geography says the Gulf of Siam isn't deep enough for subs?

The Andaman Sea is plenty deep enough for submarines!

Of course to reach it from the golf complex with a submarine base attached ( built for sound strategic reasons within 40 minutes Benz driving time of Bangkok)  the submarine will have to pass round Singaporeand through the Malacca Straits - one of the most heavily monitored and busiest stretches of water in the world.

But never fear - a brilliant plan is in the pipeline, a canal across the Krah Isthmus!

So it won't just be an ornament that can be parked up at the new Chinese sub base in Cambodia then?

That's the only language they understan.

Fresh from Pattaya!

Pattaya will be the first port of call to pick up some gogo girls for the voyage.  If they keep them away from the periscope while in enemy waters, shouldn't be a problem.🙄

Pheu Thai appeasing the military

That's my guess. Once the sub approval gets published officially, then the establishment morons can have their coup. I also doubt they'll buy Swedish fighter jets, they need some leverage with Trump. That's a game too.

If the useless sub deal ever goes through you can bet its going to need a whole lot more money.....They have had almost 10 years now to siphon off  quite a bit of the first batch of sub money..

That's what they should have engineered. Instead, the knuckleheads expect shippers to offload their containers at a new port on one side of the isthmus, then truck it to the other side, where another new port will load the container onto a second ship. You gotta wonder if they ever ran the idea past big shipping companies. The country is not big on business plans prior to capital expenditure, is it.

Deep enough but limited depth to work submerged and undetected, except far too the south.
