If Windows try setting DNS in Adapter settings to something other than your ISP and flush the dns cache

cmd in run tun box then ipconfig /flushdns

Network and Sharing centre

I use Quad 9 and Cloudflare as a secondary but pick whatever DNS resolvers you want.

If that doesn't work go with a free vpn first and see if that works before forking out - Windscribe or Tunnel Bear have limited free options

Anyone who gets this issue on their android tablet, can also solve it by simply inputting "dns.google" in the private dns provider option

Just go to "change network adapters".

Then find your WLAN and click on "properties"

Find  "internet protocol Version 4" , double click on it.

Then in the lower DNS section enter the 9999 and 1111 values, as the other poster indicated.

And your problem will be solved.

Tunnelbear

Got to be honest, I'm totallylost with this.

I'm asuming I download the item, that will put a small icon on the tray at thebottom of my screen.

Then when I want to do a more private seach I click on the icon and then proceed same as I was using chrome.

Or???

No.

Follow instructions above.

Right click on the wifi icon in the lower taskbar.

Open Network & internet settings.

Open change adapter options.

Then as in my previous post above.

Well maybe not  as the ISP can hijack DNS requests ,doesn't matter what you put in the client machine as a DNS server if the ISP intercepts/hijacks  DNS requests..a VPN can bypass this.

I also tried DNS over HTTP/s (DOT) without success but maybe that's my fault. ?

I had the same issue as scorecard. I followed the instructions by topt and it's all solved now, so pretty sure these instructions would solve scorecard's issue too.

Well one problem at least

They are just starting to block sites unless you provide proof of age such as passport ,  credit card, driving licence etc. It started last month in France and Porn Hub refused to comply and shut down their sites.

It will be world wide soon, so they say.

That might for a short while  did for me repeatedly for a short time but then either  my IP was moved to a private range with stricter filtering  or there was some sort of dynamic filter kick in  I'm using ToT/National Telecom  which might not reflect what AIS, 3BB True ISP's do..a VPN works.

Well all those dismissing the need to download and keep a personal copy

are totally vindicated now ehh  ?

Or is it those who said to download and keep a personal copy who are vindicated ?

Yah, a VPN works for sure, but it also slows down your internet speed. I never had this DNS issue, and setting  specific DNS values solved the issue completely. I hope it lasts.

Bizarrely the same happened on the android tablet, and changing to a private DNS option solved it there too.

Glad it works for you   what ISP do you use ?

as I said it has worked for me for various time frames  then it stops working

for a while but then go back to using this method after a few weeks/months  and it works again for a while etc etc  it is quite strange.

The problem as you say is that the ISP can try hijacking DNS and may do it for a short while for whatever reason. I remember a previous IT poster with more experience then me saying that AIS was very guilty of doing that. I seem to have been fortunate with True but I do use my own router with the True modem in bridge mode.

Using DOH or DOT should be safe......vpn does make sure however......

Best to select encryption for your  DNS queries as well.  It adds an extra layer of privacy from your ISP.

Away from 'those' sites, appreciate any suggestions for a sports site I like to read, https://www.theroar.com.au/rugby-union/

Used it for years, but this week all I get is:

403 ERROR

The request could not be satisfied.

Request blocked. We can't connect to the server for this app or website at this time. There might be too much traffic or a configuration error. Try again later, or contact the app or website owner.

I've tried on two phones, laptop, PC, all same result.

?

Thankyou

I have the same problem. While on the phone to a friend in Oz he checked that the site was still working. I assumed a geo block was put on or they had gone to only for the app like the banks are doing here. As you have tried the app as well and a VPN has worked for Ralf it must be a geo block. But why?

Use vivaldi browser and you will automatically get a VPN with it ( and is easily to switch on or off)

Sounds like a dangerous suggestion for this poster

"This poster" is over 80  years old with very serious extremely painful lower back and knee damage, caused by combat incidents in the Vietnam war. Also serious chest / lung issues, from my Vn service with recurring non-repairable very painful chest pain which is much worse if I engage in any strenuous actiity.

I live with my Thai son and his Thai wife and 4 kids who give me a lot of care and support and love every day.

Adding a 'lady' to the house is not going to fix anything and is not on my agenda. And the last thing I need is to upset the good harmony we have in the house which is of great benefit to me.

Try to find a different hobby, one that doesn’t give you brain rot, too much time staring at a  naughty computer screen certainly can’t be a good thing for brain health.

- I'm over 80 years old, serious dodgy lower back issues.

- Couldn't cope with a 'full' event, probably need to stay in bed a couple of days to recover.

- Wife passed away many years ago.

- Never been interested in bars / bar girs.

- So occasional porn keeps me happy.

I have found the same thing in my browser.... Sites I were able to use and even had them still in the browser stopped connecting a few days ago. It is like AIS cracked down on more websites blocking them..

I really do not see the problem with being allowed access to porn sites. Better than going off raping some Thai girl which seems to happen quite often here. .

I would suggest using google and open sites until you find some with access. There are still some that have not been blocked. You just need to find them.

FASTVPN, it is cheap and it satisfies.

Slightly off topic, but I started using 'Surfshark' VPN ( VPN (subscribed to one of their deals) some years ago for the above reasons .

ISP is TOT (NT~TOT?). originally came with the house phone* line. * rarely used these days.

Then they installed fibre line free and new wireless router & modem.

Anyway , the VPN on notebook and android phone worked well for years....can get any website!

BUT recently,  Online banking  both here and whilst in Hong Kong does not allow me to use several functions ("secure line cannot be accessed ". .or something like that ) unless I Pause the VPN . then it connects normally .

Banking security /privacy is one of the main advertised virtues of using a VPN . ..But it won't work.

Same with downloading updates to various apps like Wise systems and Registry cleaners.

Won't connect unless the VPN is paused !

Maybe I need to try a different VPN or are banks now wised up to VPNs and so  block some functions if using one ??

Any comments welcome (am 75, so keep it simple. started using computers back in the MS DOS days!)

If a financial app on mobile then many of them won't allow you to have various items including VPN's open to use them - most Thai banks being particularly painful in that regard.

If on the pc depends where your vpn is pretending to be and the address it uses there - some sites block what they see as commercial data centre IP addresses for example.

I am surprised though that you are having that issue with a pc?

@scorecard

Has the problem been solved?

If not, what is the model description of your AIS Router?

In the interest of science, I used an AIS mobile connection to get to the site you mentioned earlier. No problems with No VPN nor with VPN.

So it seems there is a problem with your settings. We can take a closer look at those. But firstly, have you tried another Browser, as suggested?

Yes some get blocked. You need to persist, innovate etc and you’ll find sites that can be loaded. Avoid typical keywords that are likely to be associated with porn. I can’t give you any website addresses for obvious reasons.
