Hi All,

I just recieved a message saying my mobile banking services has been temporarily blocked and to goto my branch. I can't get to my branch for a couple of days, can I still use my bankcard at ATMS and tap and pay? Is it all services locked or just Internet banking? Ie I can still use ATM. Just worried about trying ATM if it swallows it

Thanks

Can't help, but saying you have to go to your branch is un*******believable........mine is a 14 hour round trip.

Or do they mean any branch????

Try a cardless withdrawal, see if it works

This...

First thing to check to see if your account is open is to try a cardless withdrawal.

Then you can also try a conventional ATM withdrawal.

Also, as you suggested OP, give your Wireless Payment (Tap-n-go) at try - only you have the answer to that.

The message you received was that your 'mobile banking services have been temporarily blocked' - so that just means mobile banking service, you should still have functional Online Banking Services etc.

What did your bank's call centre say when you asked them?

"...my mobile banking services has been temporarily blocked..."

It is not your internet banking, it is the phone app.

I guess the problem with me is I originally set up a/c on a phone registered to me. But it expired. I now just use a pay and go for the last 1.5yr and no problems at all, the app still worked fine

Yes, happened to me and others.

The bank will have to need a confirmation of your mobile provider that you're registered with your passport.

With this document you have to go to your/any branch to confirm.

It takes then 2-4 days that you can use internet Banking again.

It's happening to most people, but only affects mobile banking, not your whole account.  I've had the same Bangkok Bank account and the same DTAC phone number/SIM since 2006, yet I still had to get confirmation of my SIM account from DTAC and then take it to my branch for them to unlock my mobile banking. 30 minutes of wasted time, but done now.

This problems about matching Sim and bank account are easily sorted out:

It only took me five calls to AIS, increasingly frustrating. A couple of calls to my bank. Three visits to three different AIS Centers.

Two visits to 2 different Samsung centers and 3 visits to phone repair shops,  because the nice AIS girl who finally helped me match Sim and bank broke my phone (with the banking app) for good.

A visit to NASA to buy a new phone,  that was the easiest part.

Setting up a new banking app on the new phone,  easy.

So easy!

I've been lucky. I haven't had any problems with my 3 bank's mobile apps, BBL, SCB & UOB. I received text messages earlier this year to come into the banks to verify the name on my accts, and phone before a certain date. I brought my AIS bill, passport & marriage certificate, signed a few docs, and was done. My phone SIM is in wife's name, so she had to come sign too. I think all the bank's were required to match foreign accts with a Thai SIM. Apparently, there's been an effort to cut down on scam accts. There was an earlier thread on the forum notifying everyone this was coming.

I meant to say "match names on foreigner's Thai bank accts with the names on Thai SIM cards".

Using the " my ais app" you can update your sim number.

A bit of a hassle but it worked for me ,you can upload passport, and it uses face recogn., worked for my 2 Ais numbers ( as they where on 2 different passport numbers ,as our passports getting different number by renuwing them ,Thai passports keep same number ,so foreigner hassle ...🤧

I was able to get my local AIS shop do the necessary (a process which, surprisingly, only took them 5 minutes!). But you're right, your SIM registration will need to be updated again following your next passport renewal. That after you've made a trip to your bank to update your account with the new passport number!

In that myais app you can scan your passport ,after it ask a face scan ...and if ok  you see your updated I.d. information on the app.

Can also other ais numbers adding, this must all be done over mobile connection ,putting OFF the Wifi.

I have yet to see actual evidence that they match passport numbers rather than names. Their announcement was about matching names.

I mean the automatic matching they did. I don't doubt that you'll have to show the same (current) passport to both network provider and bank in case the automatic match failed and you have to visit them.

As I got my present DTAC SIM before the 2015 passport registration requirement came in I have never been asked to update anything to do with my SIM even though I have had a new passport since then!

Passport details obviously updated at BKK bank but no mention of the SIM/Phone number!

With Bangkok Bank I just learned the following. On July 9 the Bank sent me a message that the Mobile Banking service will be blocked on July 15 since the owners name of the SIM did not match the name in the Bank.

I was very surprised since I had been to the Bank several months ago to let them check that the phone number belonged to me and they then told me that everything was OK.

Now Bangkok Bank explained that they had been instructed to inspect the owner of the SIM harder and in my case they had found that the Passport No I had shown DTAC some 15 years ago did not correspond with my present Passport No. that the Bank had!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Swedish Passports are only valid for 5 years and next time I renew my passport I don't only have to show it to the bank (which is natural) but I will first have to go to DTAC and ask them to update their info about me.

This also happened to me.  A few months ago, I was assured by Bangkok Bank and DTAC that my name matched, unsurprisingly as I've had the same SIM and bank account for 15+ years.  But then, last week, got the message via BB that my online banking was to be suspended.

Went into DTAC and they said it was because I'd never updated DTAC with my new passport number (issued in 2018).  So updated it, and Bangkok Bank updated their system.

I knew one had to tell the bank when we get a new passport, but it had never occurred to me to tell DTAC/True!

Try your app.  I know with AIS I can do it there.
