Americans' views on immigration take a massive positive swing amid Trump's crackdown

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2025/07/12/americans-views-immigration-trump-crackdown/84822145007/

"Americans' views on immigration took a massive positive swing this year amid President Donald Trump's ongoing crackdown, according to new Gallup polling.

The share of Americans who thought immigration should decrease – 55% – reached a 5-year high point in 2024. This year, it has dropped to 30%, and positive views of immigration have hit a record high of 79%, according to poll results released July 11."

For decades, this has been an issue both sides of the aisle have kept alive to use as a political football because it keeps the country divided. Now that people are seeing personally/first hand how this affects their own lives by increased costs and/or decreased availability of goods produced or harvested by immigrants, the light bulb is finally coming on. It is easily solved by creating a worker visa.

Instead, we now have a national police force and a newly expanded prison business.  The ICE budget is more heavily funded than most militaries worldwide.

The private prison business, particularly in immigration detention, has seen significant growth in recent years.

So sayeth Grok.

More "FAKE NEWS"-Most Americans want all "ILLEGALS" out of the country and come through via the legal way-"PERIOD!"

Just another member who can't understand words through the Fox Fog. Read the artical again and try quoting anywhere that anyone was saying they want to protect illegals. Let me help you - the word "illegal" was never used in the entire article. Not once.

Not one person in the world supports illegal immigrants. All people capable of critical thinking want the immigration system fixed.

I couldn't use any smaller words so I hope it sinks in.

Speed reading again are we @Dan747?

Where does the OP and the Gallup Poll referenced mention anything about, and let me quote you here, "ILLEGALS...PERIOD!" ?

Perhaps that's because Americans know you can't decrease it any more?  We're satisfied with the current level of pretty much zilch.  As opposed to the wide ass open border of previous years.

Nothing burger.

Edit:  I'm referring, of course, to illegal immigration.  The vast majority of Americans are in favor of legal immigration.  The way it's being done now...

Quinnipac, Gallup and NPR-PBS polls showed the majority of Americans disapprove about how deportations are being handled.

For decades they have said it is very complicated and cannot be solved.  He did it in a fews months.  So...

This was the actual question asked in the poll:

Americans' Preferred Rate of Immigration to the U.S., Recent Trend

Thinking now about immigrants — that is, people who come from other countries to live here in the United States — in your view, should immigration be kept at its present level, increased or decreased?

Now interpret the responses considering that legal immigration is circa 1M annually, and illegal immigration has recently (for confoundingly unknown reasons according to the Democrats and the MSM), dropped from circa 1.5M annually to nearly zero.

Rocket science, it's not. :coffee1:

Not sure why you think it is fake news... Since the original OP is saying 79% have positive views about immigration now. That is quite a high number. Given the Dems trying to use any reason to attack Trumps policy on this and to get their followers to protest, riot, or blatantly incite violence. 79% means that even some of the Dems have changed their thinking about the immigration now. Which is about time they realized how Biden had really hurt the US by opening borders to anyone.

It starts with illegals and and then spill over it all types of immigrants. In the US, IOs are now harassing US citizens who have popular YouTube Channels that talk against Trump policies or Israel's policies and immigrant lawyers who defend asylum seekers.

I remember when a bill was offered by Kennedy and McCain in the Senate to address the immigration problem.  Which wasn't really that serious of a problem more of an issue that needed addressing.  Both parties killed it before it could even be voted on.  Neither side wanted to lose this "issue" to campaign on.

Yeah so what. American's have always had a positive attitude towards immigration, legal immigration. Or are you here just making another miserable attempt to conflate legal with illegal like that of a six year old pretending no one notices?

Apart from a certain type in the UK it seems, just as long as they don’t have to live next door to them.
