Former U.S. Soldier Arrested After Disturbance at Pattaya Beer Bar

I don't know how many times I have to say this.... Foreign language teachers are almost ALWAYS up to no good.   This one appears TYPICAL.  Drinker, goes after women in a bar, gets in a fight......

How anyone could pay money to let these criminals spend time with their kids is beyond me.

Soon the International fanboys will come out and say that's not possible there......oh it is.

No denying that language teaching attracts a certain number of creeps.

That is true of teaching in general as well as clergy/religious positions. In both cases people are given a position of trust, probably respect, and enough independence where it's possible to slack off and do very little.

The one point I would differ with depending on your meaning of "goes after women in a bar".

If you mean he attacks women in the bar, that is a valid criticism.

If you are just talking about hitting on a woman in a beer bar I think you need a reality check.

Hitting on a woman in a beer bar is normal behavior, getting angry when rejected is not.

So not only do you sleep with tons of objectionable men, but if you're a prostitute you get spat at by guys from the street.

What a job.

It may pay well, but it really comes at a price.

I wouldn't place too much weight on the former American soldier bit.

Given the size of the US military, a lot of American males will have been in it.

He does seem to be a plonker though doesn't he?

Yeah I mean at 65 when was he was soldier? 40 years ago.

And you base your ridiculous generalising post "Foreign language teachers are almost ALWAYS up to no good" on this. There's more than 10,000 foreign teachers in Thailand and I know from experience not all are up to scratch but this doesn't mean ALL foreign teachers are "ALWAYS up to no good." Stupid statement. By experience I mean >20 years teaching here in Thailand. Why don't you share with us what your experience is. From your posts I would say very little indeed.

I suspect, as I have explained in other posts, that he failed to get a job!

Don't defend these fake teachers in Thailand.

Drinkers.

Getting in fights.

Last month there was a story of a kid drinking and driving.  another fake teacher.

They are super creepy people.

Some without degrees

Many broke

Almost all have no clue about how to teach.

Back in 2015 when a fake teacher told me he liked them young, paid to get them young, drank, loved to drink and drive, got high, and about 10 of his fake "teachers" all seemed at home......well, that was enough for me.

Anyone can do that fake job.

This is just one more example of the morals these clowns have.

It just feels dirty thinking about those scum.

I will troll them and their fanboys and defenders forever.

SO teachers are worse than the general foreigner in Thailand?  They are usually a little younger and have less saving but find them as a whole not a bad group.  IMO, they are more grounded and have more purpose in their life than the common foreigner.  You seem the type that is lacking and needs to degrade others to increase your status.

I have what I need and don't haven't worked since I was 42.  I feel fortunate at 58 but if I taught I would be the same person and not the pompous fool you come off as being.  Life is too short to be an internet monster - chill dude  and wish you luck finding a better place.  Ask yourself, have you ever met a winner that hated others remotely as much as you?

Very true, too many not even qualified and only doing it in order to stay here, most do not give a toss about the kids they are teaching. There are exceptions of course, but even if they are real teachers why work here earning a fraction of what they can back home? I used to know several at international schools in Bkk who went to Pattaya every Friday for the weekend, or if not out to the sex bars nearer home, some even married.

Yep. A very odd American accent that's for sure. As for being a former soldier what on earth does that have to do with anything.

Having worked for the British military for 25 years both in the UK and abroad.......and can wholeheartedly refute that claim......for serving soldiers.

If I had of been there there would have only been three hits in it.

Me hitting him, him hitting the ground and the ambulance hitting 100.

Spitting on thai women.

Letting people off with a fine is no deterrent for anti-social behaviour. A month or longer in jail depending on the seriousness plus deportation and blacklist has to start becoming the norm. A major change is needed or the place is going to sink further and further into the abyss and put more regular tourists off coming.

And why does his Thai have a Brummy accent?

His Thai girlfriend’s previous customer was from Birmingham she moved there and returned to Thailand when the money ran out.

And then she taught fatty how to speak Thai.

Fairly obvious

What were you actually teaching the Thai children Fred?

AI -While military service can offer positive experiences, research indicates that veterans, particularly those with combat experience, may be more likely to be involved with the criminal justice system than the general population

I was surprised with the answer and seriously doubt it would apply to the military of the far past.

It also could have ended up him hitting you, you hitting the ground and not getting up until Donald Trump is retired. Assumptions again. All of my life, every person that talked like you hasn't been in an adult confrontation and is still going by the fights they had as a teenager, picking on the little bookworm and thinking that made you tough. The one thing a smart person, even one trained like I have, is never to underestimate anyone.

A degree isn't necessary to teach English, as my time was spent talking to kids in camps and personal classes, so the children would learn how to pronounce words. This is what a native speaker does. You really don't understand what a narcissist is, yet you use the terminology like you do. I've mentioned this many times. You should never get into an argument with others who have consistently proven you wrong, as it makes you look more foolish with every lame reply. Again, you have no children, thank God for them, so commenting on those that do is wasted words.

Maybe a real teacher of English would be necessary to eliminate using a word like pronunciate, rather than pronounce. Does make a difference.

My skills have deteriorated (never elite 🙂 ) since moving here 20+ years ago.   I have only been faced with real violence twice here.  I was lucky both times because all I had to do is play the part of not being scared and the much bigger person calmed down.  I'm a wiry 75 kilos that looks athletic but definitely not intimidating.  I was hesitant both times but didn't see an admirable way out of the situation other than putting up a fearless facade and hoping for the best.

Yes, it's not the standard usage, but I'm thinking you understand what I meant.

Legally a degree is needed to teach in a Thai school, language schools still appear to take on anyone, even Africans with a TEFL etc

Yes, as schools are still hurting for teachers that can actually speak English, as many Thai teachers only have a small command of the language and just pass out papers for the children to copy. Many Thai children can write down English but don't know what the words mean. This I see all the time in my daughter's school. She speaks and understands English better than her two teachers. In fact my frend's school has hired at least 4 that are from Cameroon, all with English accents.

A degree is necessary to teach legally in Thailand. No degree no workpermit and no non-b.

I know.

I though all Yanks claimed to be 'ex military'.

The "starting requirements" to be employed as a teacher in a school are: a degree ( the subject is non specific), a teaching qualification (TEFL certificate) issued by a training establishment recognised by the Thai ministry (not usually an "online qualification") a clear "police criminal record report", and, effectively if not mandatory being under the age of 50. Schools can and do impose other requirements, for example I taught at a Catholic School, wherever possible they wanted Catholic teachers. Most will require you to teach at least one demonstration lesson, and most will have a probationary period during which you are assessed.

The school at which I taught required teachers to lodge lesson plans with the Head of Department every week, and these were on occasion c hedged by the Principal.

You also need to be from one of the recognised native English speaking countries or take, and pass with a high score the appropriate English test - I can't remember which one off hand (CELTA?). I have a Dutch friend who spoke excellent English, but he had to take that exam.

A proper TEFL is no sinecure, mine involved four weeks of intense classroom study, several grammar tests and written papers, and at least half a dozen rigourously assessed teaching practices carried out in Thai schools. Particular attention was paid to the preparation of, and following proper lesson plans.

The myth that all you have to do is turn up and be white is just that - a myth! There are, inevitably, a number of "contractors" or "agencies" who get around these rules - they will supply teachers from other countries (mainly African), in return retaining a proportion of the salary, which the school pays to them as contractors and which they pass on to the teacher.

I was lucky not to need a non-B visa, I was married to a Thai and was able to get a work permit with a non A based on marriage.

All in all, a lot of hoops to clamber through for @Quentin Zen's stereotypical  piss head looking for the opportunity to grope schoolgirls wouldn't you say?

I read it that he may have combined pronounce and enunciate.  Either way, I think teflers in remote areas are good for the country. They build confidence in children who may never have seen a white guy in person.

I'm not sure what being an ex officer has to do with any of this. I suppose one would hope that the Armed Forces might have been instilled within him him a sense of personal discipline, but that might be too much to ask.

It looks as if the guy was threatening to take a video and that's when the security guards reacted the way they did?

Any guy who can't handle rejection from a bar girl is a major clown, and an absolute fool, with paper thin skin, which makes him even more pathetic.

From the top down there are a lot of Americans these days that are not exactly doing America proud.
