Snogging visibly in public was very big in the 1980's with kids doing it in the school corridors etc - it was one of the things along with smoking that was in large part about looking cool and rebellious. Quite often thais will put their nose on your cheek and sniff you. That is a typical thai kiss among family friend and often gf rather than on the mouth.

It was a different time. For all the talk of prostitution in Thailand, Thai society seems extremely backward in terms of sexual permissiveness. A lot is tolerated from farang, but the Thais themselves are ultra conservative in terms of sexual permissiveness. Sex is often seen as bad. It's not rare to see TF profiles that say "no sex talk", etc, the laws in Thailand on porn, faux outrage when a restaurant owners shows  cleavage and the prohibition of sex toys tell their own story.

 

No wonder Thai girls are not into heavy kissing., at least for public consumption.
