You have to see the humor. Now what would happen if the Mexican people gave them free hotels, food, debit cards etc etc. Oh the irony.

They should rather let them work picking fruit, don't you think?

Your comment is basically worthless. Maybe try humor.

That would be a total waste of my time. Like teaching algebra to monkeys.😉

The Mexican Prez says all human beings are equal!

They/ them never would put up with the Marxist anarchy burning down their federal buildings if & when.

Simply put, illegal immigration is a felony under Mexican law. In fact, Article 123 of the General Law of Population mandates that “a penalty of up to two years in prison and a fine of three hundred to five hundred thousand pesos will be imposed on the foreigner who enters the country illegally.”

As long as I can protest my right to be working illegally then sure why not.

The protest was NOT about tourists.

It was about expats, especially digital nomads.

It's also very localized to certain trendy neighborhoods in Mexico City.

It reminds me a bit of when gay people gentrified San Francisco and then later when the tech bros heated up the SF economy to absurd levels. Yes of course backlashes are to be expected.

I would consider Mexico as having a place on my backup to Thailand list but there is no way as humble retired expat that I could afford to live in those neighborhoods.

For expats there are plenty of other decent more regular neighborhoods in that massive city. But if you're a Mexican family who has been living in the hot places for decades and then priced out, they do have a legit beef.

I copied the headlines. Does it really matter?

Yes of course it does.

On the other hand, there is the tourist factor related to the conversion of regular housing to Airbnb's. That's an international issue. But who owns most of those Mexico City Airbnbs? Mexicans.

I hope the American voter isn't stupid enough to ever allow open borders again.

I'm not seeing how gentrification of a few neighborhoods in Mexico City has anything to do with U.S. immigration policies.

As I alluded to before, the tension in those Mexico City neighborhoods is as much or more to do with the greed of MEXICANS than any actions of expat digital nomads. Do you think those digital nomads WANT to pay those outrageously high rents even though cheaper for sure than a similarly desirable urban areas in the US?

Did you ride the short bus to school?

I'm unfamiliar with the reference. Was the "short bus" for kids who mainly grew up to be part of the MAGA base?

BTW, I think the Mexican president's response to this is brilliant. Why feed hatred?

It's refreshing isn't it to see a President who actually say things a normal person would, as opposed to the abomination that is Trump.

And what, send the money home to their families in the US?

Sure, but keep enough for a TACO.

What a strange thing to say. I'm not the one supporting the anti-science crowd.

The Economist: MAGA’s assault on science is an act of grievous self-harm

https://archive.ph/aLSu6

"The attacks have been fast and furious. In a matter of months the Trump administration has cancelled thousands of research grants and withheld billions of dollars from scientists. Projects at Harvard and Columbia, among the world’s best universities, have been abruptly cut off. A proposed budget measure would slash as much as 50% from America’s main research-funding bodies. Because America’s technological and scientific prowess is world-beating, the country has long been a magnet for talent. Now some of the world’s brightest minds are anxiously looking for the exit."

What point are you trying to make?   How many of these grants are actually useful?

Science is facing a "reproducibility crisis" where more than two-thirds of researchers have tried and failed to reproduce another scientist's experiments, research suggests.

This is frustrating clinicians and drug developers who want solid foundations of pre-clinical research to build upon.

From his lab at the University of Virginia's Centre for Open Science, immunologist Dr Tim Errington runs The Reproducibility Project, which attempted to repeat the findings reported in five landmark cancer studies.

"The idea here is to take a bunch of experiments and to try and do the exact same thing to see if we can get the same results."

:cheesy: Moronic comment. These people are in Mexico LEGALLY. BTW I'm not a fan of the digital nomads thing but if they have the legal right to be in the country then they're there legally.

I'm curious as to how many foreigners are there. I totally get why they're angry. How would they feel if American children were enrolled in schools and American families needed medical care.

Now, think what the Mexican gov would do if over 10 mil illegal Americans crashed the border and required shelter, food, school, medical services etc.

I'm sure too some extent the Thais feel that way about expats in some areas.
