Police in Huai Yai were called to a residential village on the evening of 25 July, after reports emerged of a foreign man in a deranged state threatening locals and damaging property.

 

Officers from Huai Yai Police Station, along with fire service and rescue responders, rushed to the scene at house number 105/87 in Village 11, Huai Yai Subdistrict, at approximately 20:40.

 

On arrival, they encountered a man later identified as Mr Ryan Andrew Thompson, a 55-year-old American national, who was in a frenzied and highly erratic state. Eyewitnesses and police described the suspect as completely naked, wielding a golf club and shouting incoherently within the property’s boundaries.

 

As police attempted to intervene, Mr Thompson allegedly hurled objects at the officers, including stones and household items and smashed the windows of the village office. At one point, he reportedly retreated into his house and lay down, only to later return to the yard and start a fire near the perimeter wall.

 

Thanks to the swift response of the fire service, who had already stationed a water truck nearby in anticipation of possible escalation, the fire was quickly extinguished before it could spread further.

 

Police remained on site for several hours to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of residents before eventually withdrawing their forces once the threat had subsided.

 

Residents of the village told reporters that the suspect had displayed signs of unstable behaviour for some time. He was known to frequently shout, destroy property, both his own and communal and had previously frightened neighbours by walking naked through the area while swinging a golf club.

 

Locals expressed deep concern over their safety, describing Mr Thompson’s actions as increasingly dangerous and unpredictable. Many had grown fearful, with one resident stating, “It’s been terrifying. We never know what he might do next.”

 

Authorities had not confirmed whether Mr Thompson was questioned or would face charges or undergo a medical or psychological evaluation. Local officials are urging community members to report any future disturbances promptly.
