The body of a 23-year-old man from southern Thailand who went missing while swimming off Nai Thon Beach has been recovered after a two-day search, authorities confirmed the morning of 27 July.

The victim, identified as Mr Nianus Saleh, originally from Padang Besar in Pattani province, had been working in Phuket. He was reported missing on the evening of 25 July after entering the sea with five friends at Nai Thon Beach. According to witnesses, he was swimming in deep water when powerful waves swept him away in front of his companions around 18:50.

A major search and rescue operation was launched immediately, led by Thalang District Chief Siwatch Rawangkul, along with Dr Somkit Chokkhong, an advisor to the Phuket Governor, and Pol Col Salan Santisasanakul, Superintendent of Sakoo Police Station. The operation involved local authorities, rescue teams and concerned residents.

A temporary search coordination centre was established and relatives of the victim travelled from Pattani to assist and await news. The Kusoldharm Foundation deployed 25 divers and seven inflatable boats to comb the surrounding waters and rocky coastline. The Cherngtalay Subdistrict Administrative Organisation also surveyed coastal areas within their jurisdiction.

Additionally, search teams deployed drones to scan the rocky shoreline and open sea in the vicinity of the disappearance.

At 06:55 on 27 July, search and rescue personnel from the Kusoldharm Foundation located Mr Nianus’s body near rocks off Nai Thon Beach. Grief-stricken family members confirmed his identity at the scene.

The body was retrieved and transferred to Thalang Hospital, where forensic staff and police conducted an autopsy.
