An express train travelling from Padang Besar to Bangkok Apiwat Station derailed on the morning 9 August, leaving nine passengers injured, including a Buddhist monk and a young girl.

The incident occurred at around 05:00 in Kui Buri district, Prachuap Khiri Khan province. According to local reports, the train, designated as Express No. 38 and  three carriages left the tracks.

Emergency services rushed to the scene to assist the injured, who comprised one monk, one young girl and seven women. All were taken for medical treatment and no fatalities have been reported.

The State Railway of Thailand arranged alternative transport to ensure all remaining passengers could reach their destinations. Heavy machinery is being deployed to recover the derailed carriages, with work expected to be completed within the day.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the derailment.

Millions spent on rail upgrades on this line....derailments just shouldn't happen in 2025 in Thailand.

It looks like the train was traveling on a new embankment.....and the wheels fell off!

It would be interesting to see a recent Google Earth satellite shot to see if this was there before the wreck.  (Assuming, of course that's the track it was on.)

Sadly, GE is blocked here where I'm staying.

Can't tell if that rail issue was there previously, but I bet the derailment started at the facing junction just before the footbridge.

I'm assuming the train was heading bottom to top of the screenshot from the red light showing on the rear carriage in the photos.

Apparently along with northbound tracks on the Southern Line ... :cheesy:

Got G-alert stating derailed carriages are no longer an issue.
