Bangkok Condo Clash: Japanese Man Attacked Over Smoking Dispute

Violence erupted in Bangkok’s Rama 9 when a group of men, reportedly of foreign nationality, attacked a Japanese resident for filming them flouting a condo’s no-smoking rule. The incident has sparked significant online attention as footage of the event spread rapidly.

The dramatic scene unfolded when the Japanese man, concerned about the rule violation, began recording the men who were smoking in a prohibited area. As tensions rose, the group confronted him, escalating into a violent altercation.

A viral video shows the Japanese man attempting to shield himself behind a Thai security guard. One attacker, dressed in black, aggressively confronts him. A woman's voice, captured in the video, can be heard urging the attackers to desist seconds before police intervention.

Allegations surfaced that one of the attackers attempted to use a food shop sign as a weapon, but the presence of police prevented further violence. The victim sustained injuries and expressed fears of future retaliation, reported The Thaiger.

In a twist, the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok publicly stated that the individuals involved were not Chinese nationals, as claimed in online reports. They referenced Thai police confirmation, leaving questions about the attackers’ true nationality unaddressed.

Currently, Thai police have not released any information on legal proceedings or protective measures for the victim. The incident raises concerns about safety for residents and tourists in the area, drawing attention from media and the public alike.

Lesson number 1 in life.

Snitches get stitches.

But the airheads do nothing about the incredible air pollution most of the year.

Who decided to make up the rule and why. The security guy didn't seem to be bothered.

- Littering risk?

-Fire hazard

Did the Japanese man have a mandate to enforce the rule , even if the rule is enforceable.

Who has a mandate to enforce the rule and what are the consequences.

Some people just don't like being filmed regardless of the reason.

Only if I ride a two-stroke motorcycle. Although I have seen four-stroke oil burners doing worse.

Are you being deliberately dense?

Most condo rules are adopted by the residents committee. Not all residents may agree with them, but having beendemocratically adopted, all residents must abide by them.

The Japanese man was not trying to enforce the rule, as you erroneously suggest. He was filming them flouting the rule.

As to who DOES have a mandate to enforce the rule, you would need to check the regulations of the condo to ascertain that.

Not that particular people for this particular article it seems

Ok, so they ARE Chinese then. The likely story is that the Chinese embassy called immediately the police to hide their nationality. Since lying about their nationality would be even worse, they have decided to hide it.

Smoke Free Places

Smoking is prohibited in all indoor public places, indoor workplaces, and public transport. Smoking is prohibited in the following outdoor places: facilities for exercise, sports training, sports playing, and sports competitions of every kind, public parks, zoological parks, and amusement parks, children’s playgrounds, and markets.

If the chinese were concerned that the attackers could be mistaken for Chinese, it means that they were also asians obviously .

But chinese, asians or not; whatever.  One has to keep in mind that many foreigners come to Thailand and bring their mental or ego issues in their luggage.

No difference between those with a bit of cash and those who are broke. Add to that, the false sense of power that suddenly can take over with the money exchange rate difference and people wrongly thinking they are rich when they get a pile of notes handed over on changing money and it can become a lethal mix.

Prohibited by civilized people... and because smoking stinks, and second hand smoke affects the health of those who are forced to inhale some of the poison drug...

No matter how often such situations occur daily, one can but be aware that people all over are getting more and more crazy and nore and more agressive. Lot of anger just waiting to be released on any excuse, anywhere and on anybody, often for nothing. People will end up in going out armed plainly as to defend themselves from such physical assaults.

What about the security guard ? What was he doing ? First filming the scene to post on FB ?

It is literally illegal to smoke in or near condominiums. Particularly within 5 meters from the entrance. Whether Thai security cares or not does not matter.

Because it stinks and in a condo the smell drifts into people's homes.  Plus the inevitable litter from dog ends.

I would never interfere in that matter.Better be quiet and just walk away.

What goes in Japan doesn't necessarily work in Thailand.

Best keep your nose out of other peoples business and put your phone away..

Lesson learnt.
