Humble suggestion for a new kind of health related forum

Featured Replies

This idea is inspired by a hostile post in the regular medical forum suggesting that we have something like a "Quack's Corner" as a separate forum.

While I'm not suggesting a literal Quack's Corner even though it's a deliciously catchy name, I think there might the root of a need in that.

To spell this out, on the regular health forum it is very understandably not allowed to post articles from the popular press about medical information and news.

Yet in real life so many of us do read that stuff and might want to the chance to discuss it with others and get feedback.
Also a huge portion of modern people take supplements of many kinds without consulting a doctor because we've read about them in news or other online sources.

On top of that, I'm sure that many people don't even disclose all the details of that to doctors out of embarrassment.

Going further as this is an expat in Thailand forum, it's certain that many people are buying powerful and potentially dangerous meds at pharmacies without scrips that they have SELF prescribed for themselves. Such as antidepressant meds.

So I'm sure there is a demand for discussion on such matters. I can't answer if just because there is a demand whether it SHOULD be done. But I'm making the suggestion for consideration by the management here.

Not sure what the title of such a new forum should be. Maybe put it out there for non silly suggestions? In other words, NOT Quack's Corner.

Well, it doesnt need and wont get a seperate forum.

You can utilise the existing "wellness forum" for supplements etc or alternative meds etc, if its what may be described as "quckery", then go to the "off the beaten track" thats exactly what its for, non mainstream ideas, topics, etc.

In certain aspects I agree with you.

However, as you know many of expats here don't have sufficient knowledge and others will be trolling.

In general certain topics are to be reserved to a personal Doc+patient relation.

This idea has been firmly put the kibosh on by the management here.

I don’t fully agree with the reasons given but its not my show so the matter has been fully and finally settled.

I do think I failed to communicate the idea clearly or well enough.

But I don’t care about this enough to even try to lobby for it further.

This will be my last post about it.

I suggest that the topic be closed now.
