It doesn't take a genius what is attracting these sorts of men to Thailand. Over the past few years we've seen masses of them arrive in Thailand.

You start feeling a bit excited after staring at the "young" girl's photo (she's a 49-year-old woman!) and on that basis you decide that the compensation should be higher???

A crime is a crime, regardless of the victim's attractiveness rating.

Your a sick person Johnston. Compared to my age she is a young  girl and had plenty of years to live. But you Tubby focus on her eyes? She is dead. Yes the pom should pay max compensation to the family. But Tubby you know what, that will not happen? Because he is similar to you. Which is,"heartless".

Yeah, that photo must be at least 20 years out of date.

Coming soon a "GoFundMe" begging page so he can pay for his legal fees and bribes

Angry old men still venting? He's not going to be sentenced to ten years in jail, so stop salivating over it. Sorry for your disappointment @Ralf001 You'll just need to find someone else to hate.

He might.... but it could well be purely for 'show'. Many serve only a fraction of their sentence... I believe wearing a neck brace, arm sling and cheesy grin can get more comfortable terms in prison!

Conservative Govt in the UK, for all their rhetoric on being tough on crime, did their utmost to keep the prison population from spiraling ever upwards.

I read somewhere that they were releasing prisoners in Britain as the jails are to full

Successive govts have denied the investment into the UK Prison Service despite talking tough on crime. Early release and suspended or short sentences is the result.

True, but I think he probably has ego and stupidity, still. A few years in Thailand jail should straighten him out

No idea what a "Northerner" is , obviously from the North of England?

Is that a "lower" class area of England?

No, it's all pretty much lower class by now. All the big cities and 70% of London. Festering sore on the ass of humanity. Well done GB a model nation

What is attracting them?

What sort of men?

The sort who do wheelies on motorcycles?

What ever else he was here for it seems like riding a bike unsafely and killing someone was by far the worst thing he did.

Men who come here to live cheaply, to smoke weed, to chase bargirls seldom kill.

France is the same!

Going rate for killing a poor Thai on the road is 1 million baht to the family.  Kill a Thai from a wealthy family, who don't need the money, and you will do time in prison.

Yes, life and justice in Thailand is measured in baht.

Yes, that is true, place is falling apart!

As ever omnipresent, a great lesson in dramatic irony, the usual bitter  keyboarders' baying for blood and punitive retribution.

Thank goodness there are mechanisms in place to let an impartial judiciary deal with such things, in theory, at least.

An objective test & assessment of mens rea is paramount in occurences such as these, and as such I would be reticent to cite specific intent - but certainly recklessness upto criminal negligence which could carry implications of manslaughter.

I'm certainly not condoning the guy's behaviour, or trying to minimise the young lady's tragic misfortune - but I'm sure given honest introspective consideration, we're all guilty of being reckless or foolish at one point or another in our lives - especially as younger people, resultantly unscathed, or not.

My blood often runs cold witnessing some of the ridiculous exhibited driving skills in this Country, involving all manner of vehicles and people.

It's a given the guy acted like a click based egotistical <deleted>, but I very much doubt he thought he would end up injuring or killing anyone - apart from himself. Other than sensationalism, I see no conflation in his history and this event.

We're all subject to societal evolution, perceptively ever quickening, and perhaps it's natural to feel incongruency in our instilled social mores being marginalised and outpaced by the immersive, brainwashingly "more outlandish the better", social media based cultural revolution we find ourselves being forced into.

This guy will learn and ultimately be taught a valuable lesson, but certainly not, and in certain cases thankfully, by anyone on this forum.

Utter nonsense.

The law has definitions in place for these matters - murder and manslaughter. It already has that distinction.

So whilst someone driving on a motorway at 100mph in a Ferrari isn't out to kill someone, who could well do so.

Pretty sure this is what he will face.....

Negligent Homicide (Section 291): This is the closest equivalent to "unintentional homicide" in Thai law. This provision covers situations where a person causes the death of another through an act of negligence. It means the death was a result of carelessness or a failure to act with reasonable care. Penalties for negligent homicide include imprisonment not exceeding ten years. This could apply to a range of incidents, such as fatal traffic accidents, workplace mishaps, or medical negligence

The Key board waffler .

Good grief most you talk a lot of rubbish.

Pretty sure you've been at the AI again.

Police have already stated the charge was "upgraded to reckless driving causing death" which has a similar potential prison term but much larger potential fine than a charge of negligent homicide.

I'm not sure I get your point.  I put in inverted commas the relevant bit to show it wasn't my thinking but a quote, and yes it was from a news report, source of which was the police.

More likely to be accurate than the guff AI gave you as has been said before.

Just to clarify.....you are stating he has now been formally charged?

No the police stated that, as I wrote.

The initial charge was reckless driving causing injury and it was moved up to the more serious charge on her death.

Your kidding! If he left he paid the police off so he could escape and best place to do so would be Malaysia.

The 22-year-old British tourist accused of killing a woman while attempting a motorbike stunt in Pattaya could now face up to 10 years in prison after the victim died in hospital.

Brandon Mills, from Doncaster, was riding a rented scooter on the night of 14 August when he allegedly tried to perform a wheelie but lost control, slamming into 49-year-old mother-of-two, Jurairat Petchraksa, as she left a local bar on her Honda motorcycle.

Jurairat was found by emergency services lying in a pool of blood and rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite days of treatment, she succumbed to her injuries.

Mills was initially charged with reckless driving causing serious injury, an offence carrying up to three years in prison, but police confirmed the charge has now been upgraded to reckless driving causing death, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in jail and a fine of up to 200,000 baht.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Itthiporn said:

“The suspect was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but he admitted causing the accident. More evidence and witness statements are being collected, and we are awaiting a full forensic report into the cause of death. He will not be allowed to leave Thailand.”

Mills, who was reportedly beaten by angry onlookers in the aftermath of the crash, has been released from custody but has now had his passport confiscated. He has also made a compensation payment of 30,000 baht to the victim’s family towards medical costs.

Tributes have since poured in for Jurairat, described by friends as “everyone’s angel”. One mourner said:

Questions remain over Mills’ identity, after some local media referred to him as Brandon James Holmes. UK reports suggest he is the same man convicted in Sheffield in 2022 for dealing heroin and crack cocaine, when he received a suspended custodial sentence.

Police are expected to submit their findings to prosecutors once the hospital’s forensic report is complete. There are local media rumours that he has already fled illegally across the border into a neighbouring country, but authorities have not confirmed this.
