A 42-year-old construction worker drowned after drinking alcohol and diving into a deep pond to search for shellfish with friends.

Police from Cha-am station were alerted to the incident at a large pond near Chang Taeng Krajat intersection, along the Cha-am–Pran Buri bypass road, and coordinated with divers from the Sawang Sanphet rescue foundation and medical staff from Cha-am Hospital.

The pond, around 4–5 metres deep, became the focus of a three-hour search by divers, who eventually recovered the man’s body from the centre of the water. There were no signs of foul play or injuries. At the scene, officers found an empty liquor bottle, a black cap, shoes and a rope left at the edge of the pond.

The victim was identified as Prasart Kaewsirang, 42, a native of Sakon Nakhon province, who worked on a royal rainmaking operations centre construction project.

Friends told police that after finishing work, the group went to the pond to collect shellfish for a meal. They drank alcohol together before separating to dive. About 40 minutes later, while others returned with shellfish, they noticed Prasart was missing. His black cap was later seen floating on the pond, leading to suspicions he had drowned.

Rescue teams were called, and his body was eventually recovered. Police believe heavy drinking before diving may have caused him to suffer cramp underwater. His body was sent for a post-mortem examination at Cha-am Hospital to confirm the cause of death.
