Years spent in the nightlife definitely changes people. When every smile, every touch, and every late-night conversation is tied to money, it’s hard not to see the rest of the world through that lens. Men become walking wallets. Kindness gets taken fully for granted and becomes an expected obligation. Generosity starts to look less like caring and more like payment.

So what happens when one of those women leaves the bar scene and settles down with a man who once sat on the other side of it with his wallet out? Does she ever learn to see his gestures as real acts of affection and caring, or is it always filtered through the old rules of the game? Some might believe the mindset never fades. Others assume people can reset, that love or stability changes the way you see things.

The reality is, there’s no clear answer. Some people will argue it’s impossible to shake off years of conditioning, others might say people are capable of change if they want it badly enough. Perhaps it depends less on the past and more on what kind of future both people are trying to pursue.

Or maybe it’s just one of those uncomfortable truths of the nightlife world, you can leave the bar, but the bar never fully leaves you.

You could always take one for the team and marry one.

Then report back in two years and let us know the answer.

The short answer is “it depends “ on the girl obviously.  Some may transition some may not.

Black or Red .  Place your bets.

There's going to be alot of emotional damage to them. You only have to think about what they've had to do.

If you are a sound person yourself, it's really mentally taxing to go through that sort of relationship - as you will always be wary and not trusting (trust me on this).

It's difficult for many of them to get out of the 'have to make money' mentality, and they will not feel secure with you in the early period. And in turn you will feel like a bank machine and resent that because you too won't trust her as a result.

It's tough to describe - but if you are of sound mind i would avoid. But you don't really have many options in Thailand do you ?

You could of course just go with the flow and keep it light for a while and see how it progesses.

Some could be redeemable with strict rules although marriage... Why?!!?

Guarantee yourself genital herpes, HPV. Warts? She has good chance of cervical cancer. You paying dat bro?

I was just in a pub the other day on lower Sukhumvit and was thinking about the future a bit.

Staff in general are hard working. Usually there are quotas

The drinks girls are absolutely worthless. Absolutely no talent, skills, assets. Work ethic is crap. They cling to these drinks jobs absolutely as long as possible - well into their 50s. Many quite frumpy and overweight. Their sad lounge dresses are in tatters.

I'm lost as to where they get their livelihood from. Their ages alone preclude them from any employer paid job.

Funny thing is they just sit about in the pubs, lounge around in front of bj bars not a care in the world.

Not all, but many love the bar scene.  Getting attention, drinking, playing with friends, gambling, having sex with different men.  The longer they are working in this scene the harder it is to adjust to settling down with one dude.

I guess the secret is to not go with a bargirl, or get one who has not been working too long and is not tainted.

Otherwise, it could be a tough go.

Perhaps you answered your own question unknowingly. See the bold text in your post.

"Frumpy and overweight". Sounds like the typical MAGA. Hey, but what else are they going to spend their SS checks on? It sure isn't a gym membership. LOL.

Does your bathroom have a mirror? It's possible the answer lies within.

The comment you quote is about the women but then you blabber on about the tourists (unsurprisingly) to take a jab at me.

Ironic that 80% of the men I see in these pubs appear by my eye to be brokies (not MAGA). The lot looks to motley,  unkept, tired clothes questionable hygiene. These are not those on the right by and large.

I have talked to a few bar girls over the years I don't go to bars much these days and most told me they flinch when going with most customers

However I have a few friends that are married successfully to bg's and I think it's got mostly to do with sensible control of money, the friends I know are astute with money. I think these girls love to be out of the scene and feel a bit Hiso and like security and a nice house that will be theirs one day.

Another person who can't see the transactional nature of relationships between men and women in the west.

Payments are structured differently but are essentially the same thing.

What would you want them to do ? Education, including higher education is not open to all in Thai society with the costs involved.

You got to do what you got to do ... but remember housing for the local population will still be very cheap, food if you keep it at street level can be cheap, and there is public hospitals.

Western Women always stand by their man when the money is flowing.

Utter nonsense.

Women of course want security from their man. But most women in the west (till childbirth at least) are working.

Kindness and generosity are some of the cheapest virtues in our lives, giving them is easy and doesn't cost a thing, something that many, many people nowadays, unfortunately, don't realize or don't care.
