Key Principles of Socialism

Social Ownership:

A central tenet is that the means of production (factories, land, resources) are owned and controlled by the community as a whole, either through the state or through public institutions, rather than by private individuals or corporations.

Does a 10% sake count of owned and controlled by the community as a whole?

According to Republicans that is socialism, but only when Democrats do it.  Feel free to argue amongst yourselves about it.

What do you call it when Democrat does it?

How about this?

President Barack Obama struck a cautious note Monday as he announced the bankruptcy of General Motors and the government’s decision to invest another $30 billion in the company, take a 60% ownership stake in the beleaguered automaker, and take control of a number of slots on the board of directors.

How about it? Are you saying this was an ordinary investment?

Strange. Just throwing numbers out there without even trying to be credible in a poorly worded post.

Obama cost the tax payer 10.5 billion for the GM bailout.

Intel's press release states that the government "will make an $8.9 billion investment in Intel common stock, reflecting the confidence the Administration has in Intel to advance key national priorities and the critically important role the company plays in expanding the domestic semiconductor industry."

That money will come from $5.7 billion in grants that have yet to be paid out to Intel under the CHIPS and Science Act alongside $3.2 billion for the Secure Enclave program, for which the company is making chips for the U.S. Department of Defense. Intel has already received $2.2 billion of its CHIPS Act funding.

"As the only semiconductor company that does leading-edge logic R&D and manufacturing in the U.S., Intel is deeply committed to ensuring the world’s most advanced technologies are American made,” said Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, in the press release. “President Trump’s focus on U.S. chip manufacturing is driving historic investments in a vital industry that is integral to the country’s economic and national security."

Your link to the opinion WSJ article is biased and BS.

Not hard for the MAGAverse to explain. Try again BLMfem.

prior to this announcement I wonder how many insiders bought the available stock from this company?

I asked Grok the following question:

"How much did the Obama GM bailout cost while factoring in e.g number of saved jobs and a comprehensive look at cost to society if no bailout would have taken place?"

Now, run along and wipe that egg off your face. Okay, buddy?

So a GOP president demanding government ownership in a private company. No Dem president has ever done that. Trump also wants to tax innovation through a tax on patents.

This one's gonna be hard for the MAGAverse to explain away. Expect much noise about Biden, Hillary, Soros, The Laptop, the usual drivel.😁

WSJ: Trump takes 10% of Intel, as Washington becomes Chinatown on industrial policy.

https://archive.ph/6fbBC

"President Trump on Friday trumpeted that the U.S. government will take a 10% equity stake (worth about $8.9 billion) in Intel, the struggling maker of computer chips. The President made CEO Lip-Bu Tan an offer he couldn’t refuse. “He walked in wanting to keep his job, and he ended up giving us $10 billion for the United States,” Mr. Trump said of their meeting this month."

What’s the reasoning behind this thread title? It really deserves a deeper examination.

Trump takes 10% of Intel, as Washington becomes Chinatown

Are you considering using Chinatown as a projection? As a Black woman, it's important to be mindful of how portraying minorities can perpetuate harmful stereotypes or serve as a punchline. Let’s ensure our narratives uplift rather than mock.

Those investors really can't hide their love for the stake Trump took in Intel isn't it, it keeps rising.

More and more europeans are jealous of the USA as many in Europe would like to have Trump in charge. Europe is slowly destroying itself and it's the europeans who admit it. Ask anybody in the street of a major european city in France. Spain. Germany, Italy, Holland....

Thanks for confirming how dumb MAGA;s are

Hmm. Nationalizing 10% of a huge private US corporation. Isn't that what MAGA types on this board would equate with the road to 'communism'?

Communism is more of a classless society where the government owns the means of production.

10 hours ago, gamb00ler said:

Governmental ownership of the means of production is a VERY socialistic policy.... even slightly communist.

Exactly how do you explain away that fact?  My guess is that the MAGA morons are easily befuddled.

It is only 10 % . Commies take it all.

It's only socialism when Democrats do it.

Pure socialism.

Lutnick Suggests Looking at Defense Sector After Intel Deal

(Bloomberg) -- US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick suggested the government is looking at the defense sector and other industries for potential stakes in companies after an unorthodox deal that saw the US obtain a 10% share in chipmaker Intel Corp.

“Oh, there’s a monstrous discussion about defense,” Lutnick said Tuesday on CNBC when pressed on whether the administration was considering similar arrangements with companies that benefit from government policies, including in defense.

Lutnick singled out Lockheed Martin Corp., claiming the company makes much of its revenue because of the US government. “They are basically an arm of the US government,” he said.

Do try to keep up.... many AN posters argued that the government's involvement as an owner of Intel stock was not a socialistic policy.... it clearly is according to the widely accepted understanding of the main tenets of socialism.

10% for the big guy, ring any bells?

National ownership of natural resources like water, minerals, forestry, energy, public transportation, education are many of what most socialists would think is common sense, because the profits are returned to the country as a whole rather than to a corporate interest and its shareholders. But in many cases, private companies are offered the chance to bid on extracting, providing or managing the nationally-owned product. Using tax money to buy up shares of private companies (part ownership) is quasi-nationalizing - as the expenditures aren't compensated and the tax payers don't have any real say in the profit sharing, whereas if the above are fully nationalized, the whole company is owened by the people.
