Retirement estension renewal - phone contract ...

Featured Replies

Been reading that immigration are now requesting to see your "mobile phone contract" when renewing retirement extensions

Had the same number for many years - never got a contract (it's pay as you go) - the only contact is when my balance is running low, by text

So, today went to my local AIS shop.....

Gave the lady my number and my driving licence as proof of ID - and she said the phone was registered to that passport number - then i realised i had got a new passport late last year (didn't update my driving licence) - she told me to bring my new passport and she would update....

Got back to the shop and handed new passport over - security code sent to my phone, then facial recognition done - she then shows me on her tablet, the new passport number as the customer....

I then ask her can i change the number to my name, which she says, cannot .... i then ask her for a copy of the contract "to show immigration" - she says they don't do that....

Anyway i walked out, happy that my new passport number is logg'd, but slightly worried that if immigration want to see a contract, i ain't going to get one ...

so my question to the experts - can i get away with no phone contract when my renewal is due ?

About me - British passport, renewed extension multiple times, growlers in the bank - Jomtien immigration....

Tia ..

I think your confusing what the new bank requirements are with immigration. Its the banks that require verification that the phone is registered to you and has your correct name and passport number as part of shutting down mule fake accounts. The bank may actually ask for a confirmation letter from the sim card company.

Yes and I believe you or someone have confused the new banking requirements as imm doesn't do that about phones as far as I know. So check the facts on where "you've been reading it" is coming from.

Can you share the sources of your "readings"?

When I activated a DTAC data SIM for the 4G router, it received an sms message showing the date, my passport number and the name of the DTAC agent that activated it, but not my name.

For the two SIMS in my phone, the AIS app shows the first three letters of my name and surname. It also has a new button to "Update Prepaid SIM User" which needs you to be connected to the AIS network to proceed.

The DTAC app has a new feature to "Verify Prepaid Account" but that launches a True page that's only in Thai.

I am going to visit both AIS and DTAC tomorrow to see if they need anything more, especially the DTAC account which is bereft of any information as it was purchased 10 years ago and I don't recall the sales guy asking to see my passport. The AIS number has been mine for 18 years but I did have my old passport linked to it when they first requested that, so that just needs to be updated.

Definitely wasn't asked for any "mobile phone contract" when I renewed my retirement extension at Rayong a few weeks ago!

I think the OP has his wires crossed , he hasn't been back with anymore info.
