Road rage with Thais is asking for problems. Bite your tongue and move on

Not all Thai’s are Drug dealers or carry guns, but the guy in the photo looks like he’s just out of the slammer

Looks like its not just Israelis that are disliked up there

100% it's the foreigners fault. If he hadn't overstayed his visa, he would've never been shot. Case closed.

Could be being unlucky comes with the territory?

Met a few where every deleted happened to them was everyone else's fault?

For some reason that Thai guy pulled his gun on him for a reason? Or again just bad luck 🤞

Yeah...investigate throughly on the tourist who got shot for his overstay and forget about the criminal who shot him as he is a Thai.

Not much to investigate.  I'd say it's a clear cut case of the foreigner being at fault.   None of this would have happened it he hadn't come to Thailand in the first place.

The constant denigration of Thais by some farangs is nothing new.

Why do these snarky misfits remain in Thailand?

Are they being held here against their will?

If not, they should do everybody a favor and bag out.

The rest of the world, outside Thailand, may not consider that to be doing it a favor.

I don't find this aspect of the incident the least bit strange. Most Thais are very decent people with explosive tempers. The trigger man probably came to his senses and felt remorse for his actions.  The judge might look favourably on the act of taking the victim to the hospital and reduce the sentence.

Or the judge may choose to totally ignore the profession of this very public spirited hot head.

Can you post any links to advice about "bagging out", possibly a YouTube or two? Some of these "snarky misfits" are stuck quite deep in their xenophobic rabbit holes and may need a bit of assistance.

The court might rule that it is the Scots fault. He overstayed his visa and hence this "accident" could happen. If he had adhered to the visa limitations, he would not have been in Mae Hong Son and hence the shooting would not have taken place.

You may now kiss the ring!

The incident happened in Pai and not in Mae Hong Son and the exact location is 19.367896, 98.438840 - for those who need to know more 😉

Took him to a hospital so he wouldn't die and thus avoid a murder charge

He doesn't like smelly farangs. I can't disagree with him on that.

I've met more smelly Thais. My wife is Thai and I love her very much and have been happily married for 12 years. She comes from a small village in Buri Ram. as you know a rice growing area. She now showers twice a day and uses deodorants.

Now about your comment  about "smelly farangs". Those villages have never ever used deodorants and you say farlangs are smelly as you agree with that racist moron Anutin? If that's not a biased comment I don't know what is?

Read between the lines...why do you shoot a guy you previously met, and then take him to hospital...there may have been a 'business' deal gone wrong, a shooting and cover up.

In the US ICE turned up at a forest fire in California that was being fought by contracted private sector firefighters and made them all line up and show ID.  They arrested two Mexican fire fighters for not having proper papers.  It is said that ICE went to heaven after that, as they had heard there were a lot of Mexicans there without proper documentation.

The best thing that you can do here when out in public is to be as humble and respectful as possible, even when somebody does something stupid on the road. That's no reason to react and act out, here that can cost your life. You just take a deep breath, you count to five, and you just say okay I moved here because I wanted to be some someplace that was less predictable, if I wanted predictable I would have stayed in the US. I'm here because I like the fact that the place is different, the people are different, the culture is different, and I understand the fact that Thailand is not a foreign country, Thailand is a distant planet.

Things happen to me everyday here that I don't understand, I've learned to take a deep breath laugh it off and move on.

The term I use is "mercurial". Very low flash-point, particularly among the young, as a fun confrontation can turn murderous in a flash. Time and again I've seen it. When I was working at STOU in Nonthaburi, there was a late-night confrontation at a major intersection near the university. Two gentlemen in luxury cars, strangers, got into some kind of dispute and proceeded to shoot one another dead, before they had a chance to enjoy some eats. It may baffle the Euro contingent but sounds quite familiar to Americans.

So what is happening? Studies have been done in the USA that reveal, awkwardly, that young blacks in particular tend to have very low impulse control. Some very minor slight may trigger a reaction, and with the Second Amendment in force gunplay results. When I lived in Thailand I recognized this syndrome. Sudden change of mood, low impulse control, alcohol (now drugs - not so prevalent in the 1980s) and easy access to firearms. Exciting combination.

I know for a fact with young black men in America oftentimes it's about feeling disrespected and I think more than likely the same applies here. The few times I've gotten in a confrontation with a Thai man, I just simply apologize, do a deep wai, and that seems to settle the matter. There's no point in engaging, absolutely nothing to be gained.
