A 61-year-old motorcycle taxi driver has died following a collision with a passenger van and a pickup truck on Patong Hill.

The victim, Prasong Sihanat, from Patong, was riding a blue-black Honda PCX 150 when the crash occurred on Phra Baramee Road at around 20:00 on 29 August.

According to police, Mr Sihanat is believed to have suddenly cut across traffic, clipping a passenger van before being thrown into the path of an oncoming pickup truck. He was found trapped beneath the vehicle and, despite efforts by rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was later transferred to Patong Hospital before being released to his family for funeral arrangements.

The van was driven by Wirayut Meechan, 41, from Trang province, while the pickup truck was driven by Suthep Sommat, 37, from Krabi. Neither driver sustained injuries.

Witness statements and preliminary CCTV footage suggest that Mr Sihanat pulled out suddenly, leaving the van driver unable to avoid a collision. The impact threw the motorcycle across lanes, where it was struck by the pickup truck.

Patong Police Superintendent Col Chalermchai Hernsawat and investigators confirmed that both surviving drivers underwent alcohol testing and which were negative. Officers also mapped the crash site and took further statements as part of the ongoing investigation to determine the precise cause.
