Amarat's Naked Dance: A Political Promise Kept

In a surprising turn of events, former Move Forward Party MP, Amarat Chokepamitkul, honoured a unique vow yesterday, 1 September, by performing a traditional Thai dance in the nude, following the removal of Thailand's former Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, from office.

Amarat had pledged on Facebook back in June to dance naked if Paetongtarn was ousted by 2025. This promise was realised sooner than anticipated, as the Constitutional Court ordered Paetongtarn to step down on 29 August, citing serious ethical violations in a phone conversation with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen.

The controversial call took place amid escalating border tensions between Thailand and Cambodia. Paetongtarn contacted Hun Sen in a move widely criticised for allegedly undermining the Thai military. Critics accused her of seeking undue sympathy by likening herself to his niece and offering unspecified favours for peace.

Suspicions arose among some Thais that Paetongtarn may have been seeking personal gain from the situation. However, she denied these allegations, arguing her approach was a strategic negotiation tactic intended to alleviate tensions.

The court, however, was unconvinced by her defence, resulting in her removal from office. Amarat, committed to her vow, performed the dance at a shrine in Nakhon Pathom province, within a tent screened by white cloth, later sharing the event via a video on her social media.

Her adherence to her promise garnered praise from supporters. Despite expressing some scepticism about superstitions, Amarat explained that her vow arose from frustration, yet felt compelled to see it through.

The incident underscores the lengths some individuals go to in demonstrating their political beliefs, adding an unusual chapter to Thailand's vibrant political landscape.

Yes but I don't want to see her naked, she's not so attractive.

Who knows if she is naked? A typical politician's trickery. But who cares? She partly kept her promise by dancing. All a misunderstanding.

Thai military. Critics accused her of seeking undue sympathy by likening herself to his niece and offering unspecified favours for peace.

erh favours!

I avoid Mr C when she is offering favours!

☻☻☻😬😮🤔

I would.

Just hope the judge wasn't swayed by this - shows you the maturity of your politicians. Having made this vow to herself - i wonder how she feels now ? Is she self satisfied ....? why publicise the event ? i think it sends the wrong message - Can the ex PM also dance naked and get her job back ? That i would much rather see ....Joking aside , in a country where superstition is rife - do we really want people to think that by behaving erratically - they can somehow change the fate of others ? isn't that the essence of witchcraft?

If she performed in Pattaya's streets, no one would have noticed

The origin of the expression, "You give me the sheets"?

If she dances at different posts along the Cambodian border without the covers, the conflict will end, since all the Cambodian soldiers are already fleeing.

She'd have wrinkles down below like tripe. Even the  bar mongers would be yelling out to get them on.
