Thaksin has phoned his MPs saying he definitely will return on Monday.

He either knows Tuesday's result in advance or he has a credible excuse up his sleeve if he doesn't come back on Monday ( Dubai doctors forbade travel to Thailand for 5 years, etc ).

I think he means ‘the plane will return on Monday’ but he won’t be on it.

Makes perfect sense, as Dubai is the nearest airport to go to, if Singapore is closed... 😆

He cleared immigration telling them he was going to Singapore.

Thai immigration or the junta-aligned court might have denied departure for Dubai, citing his parole or legal risks, whereas Singapore (a neutral medical hub) had a higher chance of approval.

Junta? What junta?

I said "junta aligned court" Try these.......👓

Thailand effectively has a judiciary, particularly the Constitutional Court, that functions in alignment with the interests of the military-royalist establishment, often described as a "junta-aligned" or "establishment-aligned" institution.

Mixed metaphors. Right now, there is no junta for anyone to be aligned with, but maybe in about four months from now?

Genuine question - but why are there people on this forum so against him ?

Take a wild guess.

It is quite amazing to read so many anti-Thaksin  comments here on AN. No doubt most of you live down south in Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Cha Am and the other seaside resorts, never visiting the north of the country, especially you "newbies" who are "following the flow" of discontent!

The long established Shinawatra family are from Chiang Mai being respected, liked and supported by many of the Lanna (and Isaan) residents to this day. This is one of the reasons he is disliked by the Bangkok's top elite establishment - he is not one of them (even as PM)! That is why the Pheu Thai red shirts were in dispute with the pro-monarchy and pro-military yellow shirts. He invested a lot of Bangkok money in the North.

During my 20 years of permanently living in retirement (not a snow flake) in Northern Thailand, near Phayao, I experienced and witnessed the many projects which brought the north into the 21st Century. Infrastructure, especially road improvements (new super highways) and the introduction of the internet (yes)  and mobile phone connections in the rural and mountain areas received praise from me.  I no longer had to perform a 60km round trip to access the internet via my laptop. The first mast in our village was AIS (yes, Shin Corporation at that time).

Farming and agriculture became modernized and mechanized bringing improved income for the farmers - out went bullock carts and in came tractors.  Business investments brought vast new industrial estates to Chiang Mai, especially between Chiang Mai and Lamphun, as can be seen today.

Yes, I accept his recent transgressions - don't we all transgress now and again?

He still has my support, even that I now live in Cambodia.

Good luck, Sir!

No further comment from me.

Following the completion of the prime ministerial vote, former PM Thaksin Shinawatra called key Pheu Thai Party members directly from Dubai to thank them for their votes for Chaikasem, stating that he will definitely return to Thailand on Monday.

Yes maybe Monday 2030. He is GONE. Clearly he knows in advance that if he stays he will be arrested again but without the 5 star hospital.

Hopefully he'll never be allowed back in - ever.

Q: How does a Shinawatra say "Goodbye?"
A: "Dubai" 👋

Thaksin's Dubai Detour: Immigration Drama Sparks U-Turn

Former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra took to social media, decrying an immigration hold-up in Bangkok that forced an unexpected diversion to Dubai instead of Singapore on Thursday night.

At 2.07am Friday on X.com, Thaksin detailed how he initially planned to reach Singapore for a health check-up with a trusted doctor. However, what should have been a routine departure turned into a travel headache, as immigration police reportedly held his flight for almost two hours, despite him having clearance to exit Thailand following a prior court case.

When airborne en route to Singapore, Thaksin’s pilot informed him they were unable to reach the Seletar Airport—Singapore's hub for private jets—before its 10 pm closure, as Singapore is one hour ahead of Thailand. Consequently, Thaksin instructed the pilot to redirect their flight to Dubai, where he could consult longstanding doctors and meet up with friends unseen for over two years.

However, the journey to Dubai was not without its challenges. Thaksin’s plane circled over Dubai for an extended period awaiting landing clearance before finally touching down.

Despite the hurdles, Thaksin assured followers he intends to return to Thailand by September 8, ahead of a Supreme Court hearing on September 9 concerning his previous extended stay at Police General Hospital rather than in prison between mid-2022 and early 2023.

Thaksin's unexpected detour underscores ongoing challenges for the former PM, who still faces scrutiny upon his return to Thailand. As the deadline approaches, eyes remain on how this saga will unfold.
