Change in coding monthly Wise transfer into my Bangkok Bank acct

Featured Replies

I believe that this was addressed before but I can’t find it.

For my retirement extension I transfer 65k every month from my US account to my Bangkok Bank account.  When I check my account using the app the transfers are coded as “International funds transfer”.  I had no trouble doing my extension by providing an annual bank statement with these transactions highlighted.   I just did my September transfer and now looking on line this transaction is listed as “DEP TRF FR E-CH”.  Will this designation cause any issue when I do my annual extension this December?  Would I need to get some other documentation to show that these are foreign funds transfers?

Next year this will not be an issue since I’ll be switching to 800k in the bank method.

You can get a credit advice from the bank for free, they can set it up so you get emailed one everytime your deposit comes in, I have been doing this since March works just fine.

Thanks for the info.  I’ll do that.

I noticed that I can request a statement sent to my email.  Would this statement be acceptable for my annual extension?  I usually go in and get a statement printed out.

You still need to go to the bank to get the printed statements.  They'll stamp and sign them as being authentic.

(99.9% certain immigration will not accept statements that you print yourself.)

It includes reports from the OP and another individual of experiences similar to yours. Looks like Wise can no longer be relied on for the correct coding of monthly 65k international transfers.

@Brick Top - you and @KhunBENQ are not alone, it would appear!

Looks like unfortunately.

I will do a 12th transfer next month to Bangkok Bank and then test the mood at immigration.

If denied I will have a joker.

And even with Kasikorn: can you be sure it will work all year?

I think unless you use SWIFT transfers, there's no way to be 100% sure, regardless of which Thai bank you use.

As seen, those things can and do change, often surprisingly.

Next week I will go Chiang Rai immigration to see what they will accept.  They are very flexible and pretty easy to work with.

That’s what I thought but Chiang Rai immigration is pretty easy to deal with.  I’ll speak with them next week.  They only do extensions on Monday and Wednesday so if I go in on one of the other days when they open it is pretty quiet.

The description on my statement for my last transfer in shows as "Trade Finance Deposit". Very strange.

That would be to Kasikorn Bank and is nothing new.

It should be recognised by Immigration as an overseas transfer but if not if you ask for a statement in Thai the translation shows it as foreign.

As @treetops

writes. No problem and best ask for statement in Thai language.

In the online banking I can open more details and it shows WISE payments ltd ...

Thanks treetops. I actually use the 800k method but it was just an observation. Strange designation.

But are SWIFT transfers still a cast-iron guarantee of an international coding where the Thai agency bank used by your home country bank is not the same as the one to which a particular transfer is destined?

I believe IO will only accept statements which have been stamped and signed by a 'bank official'.

If the Wise is sent via Kasikorn who then transfer it to Bangkok Bank, showing as a Local transfer, you must go to Kasikorn to get the Credit Advice.

Some members on here have said that their IO accepts the WISE statement available for every transfer, which shows how much, when and via which bank. I would hope that the IO would accept that, but who knows.

Not the case with Korat IO, i get the 12 month statement from my local BBL and it is never signed by a bank official and it is accepted no problem. Thai IO have differing requirements for some inexplicable reason.

So could you use statements which you yourself have downloaded online?

No not accepted, must be issued by BBL.

Yes I knew that, but someone previously said that their IO accepted them.

Isn't it stupid that they, IO, want both printed statements stamped by the bank AND copies of your up-to-date bank book, which shows exactly the same, AND a letter saying the current balance.   TIT!

For me, SWIFT First-Party transfer from U.S. bank account (I send USD) to BBL...

App: Net amount, Description: International Funds Transfer, Channel Upload Direct Debit/Credit Fedi B2B

App-derived Statement: Particulars: Foreign T/T, Via GPSD

Passbook: Code: FTT

Credit Advice Receipt: many details

SMS: Customer name has transferred THB nn,nnn from abroad (USD amount FX rate, fee, account number (partially masked)

ext stay/ret-income: I used passbook + copies (same day B/F), account ownership letter, twelve Credit Advice Receipts, Credit Advice Summary/cover letter addressed to Immigration.

I am still working on getting a "credit advice" for my last transfer with WISE.

I contacted customer support via message on the website (very inconvenient).
They advised that the staff should contact customer service through the hotline 1333.

Yesterday I went to the branch and the clerk clueless as expected.

She finally managed to get through on the hotline (although the menu code 2-0-8 from customer service does not work ).

Finally had a female staff on the line.

Spoke very good English and clearly understood what my problem is.

What is unclear, when will I get the credit advice?

(not knowing whether it will be helpful)

Sent another message 🙄 and visit the branch again on Friday at latest.

As is the norm here in Thailand, IO's have their own rules and what one IO will accept another will not TIT

Here’s an update based on my original post regarding the the coding “FOREIGN T/T” which all of my other Wise transactions were coded as versus the last transfer coded as “ DEP TRF FR E-CH”.  I went to immigration this morning in Chiang Rai where I always do my retirement extension.  Of course their determination may not be same as other offices.

The first coding has always been accepted.  For the latest coding I will need a credit advice from my Bangkok Bank.  I showed them a printed receipt from Wise showing the transfer and was told that only the credit advice from the bank would be accepted.  I asked about switching from monthly transfers to 800k in the bank.  Since my extension date is in January the IO told me that I could put the money in now (which I have) and stop my monthly transfers.  In January I would only need to show that the money has been in the bank for 2 months.  No need to show any of the transfers.

As a number of people have already mentioned, the bank statement must be signed and stamped by the bank.  A downloaded and printed copy is not acceptable.

I just picked up a twelve-month statement from Bangkok Bank an hour ago - ordered last Tuesday (200 baht).

It is neither stamped nor signed. Nothing indicating "Thai officialdom".

The receipt has two stamps and three signatures - I had been holding the receipt so it's not like it was stapled to the statement.

It looks like it's from an 1980's dot matrix printer.

Oops, I misread my notes.  You are correct.  The bank statement needs to be from the bank which, like you said, is from the dot matrix printer.

The six month statements on the spot are obviously laser prints on special A4 sheet with color logo. Stamped and signed.

Clear print, good to read.

And it comes in large wide sheets that are folded.

Must be a dinosaur printer. Had that indeed during late 80s and early 90s at.

Thailand, land of dot matrix printers

At MAKRO it can take a minute to print the large receipts.

Where the heck is this stuff still sold?
