You are still missing my point. Not everyone pays taxes on SS and from the numbers you talk about you may be someone that 0% of your SS is taxable. The new temporary deduction does not change the math to figure out how much of SS income is taxable. If box 6a (SS payments) and (6b Taxable SS) are the same number on your 1040 you are doing your taxes incorrectly. Worse case 6b should be 85% of 6a. If someone only has SS income their SS should not be taxable.

Maybe this boring video with do a better job of how much of a persons SS is taxable than I can do.

I get the feeling you think I am against the 6K deduction this is not the case. The problem I have with this  deduction is that it is temporary being only good for 4 years.  I don't understand why not make it permanent.  If someone is currently 60 they will never get this deduction unless another bill is passed because this deduction will expire before they turn 65. This deduction is good for rich and poor alike and when it disappears I think people will be upset.

You said in your first post that this 6K impacts Social Security and all of my replies are just to say no it does not. It only depends on age and if you get Social Security or not is irrelevant and it does not change the math on how much of SS payment is taxable.

Really depends on how much SS you get, and what, if any, deductions you have.   I have no deductions, and I'm borderline taxable income, almost on SS alone, and my pension is a pittance.

As stated, I'm the only traceable 'income' earner, and that's at the tax rate for married.  So any change to the tax filing, laws, whether flat tax decrease or added deductions is welcome.

Whoa, I just checked, (SS + pension) and without any imaginary deductions, I'm $484 over, and should have filed income tax ... .shh

Oh wait, that added $6k would keep me under any taxable amount.   Thank you President Trump ❤️

This seems to say you agree with me 0% taxable amount on Social Security. This was also the case in 2024.

You get 6K this year even though you have 0% taxable social security.  The 6K has nothing to do with social security was all I ever said. Do you understand?

Yes, as  I noted a couple times, any changes any where that affects your taxable income, whether a specific tax cut / decrease or just added available deduction to the tax code is welcome.

Don't think I'm the one that doesn't understand :coffee1:

And THANK YOU PRESIDENT TRUMP, for the change, apparently would have saved me a few $$$$ this year (if I filed), and surely more in the future, as it will take a while for COLA to get my  income up to $38,000 a year.

Americans’ views of President Donald Trump’s job performance remain negative amid a flurry of activity from his administration on tariffs, immigration and public health, according to the latest NBC News Decision Desk Poll powered by SurveyMonkey.

Respondents said they prefer leadership with political experience over outsiders who will shake things up, amid a second Trump presidency defined by sweeping and rapid change.

Just over 4 in 10 Americans, 43%, approve of Trump’s job performance in the survey, similar to his standing in June, while 57% disapprove. Trump’s weakest ratings are on economic matters, with 39% approving of his handling of inflation and 41% approving of his handling of trade and tariffs.

With normal people (non cultists) Trump is about as popular as a ham sandwich in a synagogue!

suppose the dumb liberal supporters approved of bidens job creation and his cooked job stats? It was a big lie and fraud like all things Biden, democrats, AKA LIARS & losers.

Complete B.S., as usual!

There was a similar massive revision in August 2024, before the election.

Wait for the next August/September 2026 revision! 🤣

Even after this revision, job creation was three times higher than under Trump! 🤣
