What bank gives the best interest ?

Featured Replies

As the title says, but I'm not interested in the BKB. Term deposits or other type of accounts please. Also note that some banks either reduce the interest for 'falang'  and some will not even give you an account that has interest like the Bank for agriculture  BAAC' it seems many banks are racist' the best I can find is the Bank of Auyudhya aka yellow bank 12mth term deposit at 2% minus 15% tax.

I could not find the 2% rate @ Krungsri bank.  Here's their current rate sheet:

https://www.krungsri.com/Krungsri2020/media/Banking-Rate/deposit-rates/en/deposit-rates-09092025-en.pdf

Time Deposits at the bottom of page 4 show only 1.1% for 24 months.

Check out the EZ Savings account at SCB.  Currently 1.5% up to 1M ฿ but only .45% for funds over 1M ฿.  Initially they offered that account for up to 2M, then dropped to 1M, then raised back to 2M...now back down to 1M ฿.

LH Bank used to offer an account called Pro-Fit but was only for Thais.  Now I can't find a link to it from their main website but I can find a page using Google search:

https://www.lhbank.co.th/en/personal/deposits/pro-fit-digital-savings/

Thai bank offerings are very strange... it seems some of their special account offerings are meant to bamboozle their customers.

Not sure where you get 2% for 12 mths Fixed.

Latest  rates (as of an hour ago) are 1.15% for 12mths at Krungsri and 1.10% at Bangkok Bank.

Check website of BOT.

Thanks but I had a big problem with SCB even their staff on my own laptop could not sign me in, even after giving me new passwords, so I took my money out.

Phones with facial recognition security are more secure than laptop/desktops.  I only use phone and it works great.

No Thai bank does everything well.  Just use the one that covers your requirements better than the others.

I only use desktop to get an instant list of recent transactions to tally up monthly expenses.

Not new, but only for people with at least 2 million in deposits or assets with the Bank.

Thai banks not offering as good a deal to falangs who live and have families here as they do to Thai citizens could be considered racist.  I doubt that there is a Thai law underpinning the bank's favoritism toward Thai nationals.  LH Bank explicitly states the 'best' savings account is only available to Thai nationals.

Spend it, as any saving account's interest is way less than inflation, so from day 1, you're losing money.

If married, top up wife's retirement account, along with your oops account, (if not having health ins.), and start spending any thing else in the ol' pocket.

We're at that point now, and this is our last year of savings, being thrifty.  Apparently already started, as our monthly living expenses seem to be double this year vs last year, and we haven't even been frivolous, just not as thrifty while O&A.

The interest rates are so derisory that I'm pretty sure it's simply not worth putting your money in any accounts inside Thailand, you can get far more return elsewhere.

For example, I've got just under a million USD earning around 6.x% a year outside of Thailand which I consider acceptable but not exceptional, why would I ever consider moving this amount into Thailand?

They do want remittances don't they? They must think we're suckers

I’m looking to park a similar amount but may need to do it outside the UK since I’m non-resident and have been away too long.

I wouldn’t keep it in Thailand, what options are available?

Oh I see but they sent me an SMS saying it was new, even had a guy phone me to explain all about it, and it was 6.30 pm, and no I did not give or was asked for my bank details.

SCB hasn't had web access for a while now, its access via phone app only, so not sure where you were trying to log in to from your laptop?
I have the EZ account (monthly interest) and find them great, that they can generate both a 12-month statement and confirmation letter for immigration purposes, on the spot.

In their bank with their Wi-Fi it only stays active for one hour, using their Wi-Fi

I'm pretty sure JWNZ was asking what webpage for SCB were you trying to access, because they only allow remote banking access via smartphone apps.

Unfortunately poor management of US affairs has resulted in US $ losing 5.1% against the Thai ฿ over the last 12 months.  But even worse, the $ has lost 9.6% vs ฿ since the last US Federal election.

I certainly hope the $ improves as I have no ability to detach my retirement funds from the US $.  Thankfully the better returns on conservative US investments do ameliorate the pain of loss on exchange rates.

The Baht has increased in value, a lot, against the Pound, Dollar, Euro, Yen and Aussie Dollar.

The Dollars not the problem here, the Baht is bucking the trend.

Why is it suddenly worth so much more? We are talking between 5 to 12% here depending on what you compare it to.

Did Thailand put its price up?

@Brian,

SCB easy banking via laptop is already a few years not avalible anymore. You have to install the mobile app and, with the same paswoord and login it will work.

Surprised the staff at the bank didn't know this.

The most safe way to intall the app is: you do it at the bank en not via internet. So you are 100% sure you have the right one.

The GBP is worth pretty much exactly the same against the Baht as it was 12 months ago. 42.8 last year, 42.9 today.

One reason for the Baht strength could be found in the story of abnormal amounts of gold moving to Cambodia.

The Bank of Thailand website has a list of all Thai bank interest rates on their website which is updated daily: https://www.bot.or.th/en/statistics/interest-rate.html

That webpage only lists the interest rates for 'standard' savings account and for fixed deposits.  Many Thai banks offer better rates on special savings accounts.

No interest in moving my savings to Thailand. Here its only 1/3 of the interest rate I get in Norway. I only keep +800k in one account for NON IMM here. Absolutely no reason to have any savings here.  Loan interest is high here but that does not reflect in saving rates. 25-30 years ago you could get 10% interest rates on savings in Thailand. Feels safer not to keep money here, except for spending.

SCB cannot scan face for foreigners, almost every Thai bank can do now

lucky you!

but not everyone comes from a country that offers good bank interest rates, or even allows you as a non-resident in thailand to invest or just keep a bank account. in the past 20+ years, three banks in my home country have already closed my accounts. it’s becoming harder and harder to maintain any banking connection there, let alone make investments. as an expat with a thai address, the red warning light goes on immediately at the banks ...
