The Imperator and his dislike for small successful countries.

The "Imperator" and his dislike of successful little countries.

The clichee: The Swiss make cheese and watches. In their spare time they blow the Alphorn and do some heavy duty yodelling as they have so much spare time.

Fact is: Switzerland has/had no raw materials that they could sell to the world. So they specialised in industrial high quality products and built up a pharmaceutical industry, both gaining much respect and acceptance around the world. An achievent by an alpine republic of less than 9 million citizens. That, in itself is nothing short of amazing.

Of course, the new Imperator in the white house can not understand/accept such a constellation. It's true, Switzerland exports much more to the US than Switzerland imports from the US. There must be a reason for that. What could it be?

So, the Imperator at the white house decided, that such a success story by a meager alpine republic has to be "curtailed" by imposing a hefty 39% tariff on Swiss made goods. The highest in Europe.

Some observers are starting to wonder, if the imposition of tariffs (even concerning small global players like Switzerland) will help to make "America great again".

Does Switzerland have tariffs for imported goods from the USA?

Who is "The Impersonator" and who, or what, do you assert he is  impersonating?

It could be that the US consumes a whole lot of the world's products. But you knew that already. The size of the 2 countries is drastically different.

The US  imports approx 86bn in goods from Switzerland. Switzerland imports approx 30bn from USA. So when comparing population size of 347 mn people in America vs 9mn people in Switzerland the numbers are actually quite unbalanced.

Big nothing burger here other than the OPs disdain for Trump.

Yawn.

Seems pretty obvious to me, and no doubt to most of us, the point @swissie is making! One may or may not agree with it.

But hey, don't let that stop you from picking a fight, or attempting to swamp us in a sea of pedantry!

Along with Swiss banks receiving some of the largest fines in history, for their illegal banking practices.

Maybe he's just trying to get back all the tax dollars they're kept from the USA for decades.  While enriching themselves helping the worst scum & predator on the planets.

Don't love how folks throw numbers around, but never per capita :coffee1:

Switzerland having the most millionaires per capita.  They can afford the tariffs.  Wonder how many in the banking industry ?

Complete nonsense. Who is this "they" you are referring to? Are these millionaires doing the research? Are they the one on the production liines manufacturing the pharmaceuticals? Are the pharmaceutical companies entitled to seize funds from these millionaires so they can lower prices and keep their products competitive?

So enlighten me...Who is "The Impersonator" and who, or what, do you, "the most of us", assert he is  impersonating?   You, or "the most of us" got anything?

Once again, nothing more than a question of mine, in response to a ridiculous characterisation from Swissie, is labelled as "fighting and pedantry", the usual retort from "most of you" when you have nothing!

Maybe you should start with basic reading comprehension. The OP wrote "imperator", not "impersonator".

Now, run along and try again.

Wow, you're right (for once), I misread the word...my apologies to all.   Ironically, none of those who responded to me noticed it either!

Highly unlikely, any opportunity to have a go at me would not be ignored to save my feelings.  You were all as wrong as I was this time but didn't want to embarrass yourselves after compounding my error    At least I can admit when I'm wrong.

This post must be years old. Swiss Banking regulations are very strict these days. When depositing funds in a Swiss Bank (over 10k), one must declare "where the money comes from". No exceptions.

So, Swiss Banks are not the place to launder money. I recommend: Cayman Islands, Panama, the British Channel Islands and many more.

But lo and behold, those places still practise money laundering up to this day and nobody making any efforts to drain those swamps.

But, I suppose, that the High and Mighty want to keep certain places where they can "shelter" their money. Switzerland was the "fall guy", as they were able to proclaim that "we did something against money laundering".

The old song once more.

A) Every Jew who could identfy himself had access to his Gold after WW2.
B) Many Jews did not survive the holocaust, so they could not collect their Gold. But hordes of "pseudo relatives" claiming the "homeless" Gold. Very challenging for Swiss Banks.

In case of doubt, the Gold was stored until verifiable heirs were able to deliver definitv proof of relationship. This has nothing to do with "stealing" the Gold of the Jews. The Bank of England would have proceeded the same way.
