Likely UK State Pension Increase for 2026

Featured Replies

The UK State Pension increase for April 2026 will be determined by the highest of three factors under the triple lock guarantee
:
  1. Inflation in September 2025, as measured by the Consumer Prices Index (CPI).
  2. The average increase in total wages across the UK for the May to July 2025 period.
  3. Or 2.5%.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) data for total pay (including bonuses) in the three months to July 2025 indicated a 4.7% increase, making this the likely figure for the annual increase in the April 2026 State Pension.

Wont matter if you live in Thailand as the increases are not paid to you.

Will matter to the following...

1) Snowbirds that come over to Thailand and spend up to 6 months here then return home to the UK.

2) Residents of countries that have a reciprocal agreement with the UK , but spend up to 6 months in Thailand.

3) Those who maintain a UK address , but rightly or wrongly keep schtum about it.

Can't you just ignore a UK pension thread for a change?

As someone who has posted extensively about the potential penalties supposedly not being able to be enforced I do not understand why you are posting these 'leading' comments - or are you hoping to bring in your regular protagonist and derail yet another thread.......:1zgarz5:

Could even be more if the CPI rate for Sept, due to be announced on 22 Oct, is above 4.8% (as per your preceding post).

Unfortunately, for most of us State Pensioners living in LOS it'll be a case of dream on....😴

Unless you go back for a visit  then if you call the pensions office in zNewcastle with your NI number   they will increase it for the duration of your stay.

I just got back and got an extra 200 quid...worth the phone call

At the new digital system at airports

Despite being 'infamous' for jumping between towns and countries (Thailand-Laos-Myanmar) every few months, it has always been my long-term plan to settle in the Philippines after I start to receive my UK state pension, otherwise I would have a frozen pension. The burning season in Myanmar/Laos etc is also of concern for my krap lungs.

In the PI, the longterm visa is the SRRV, which now requires a pension of at least $800/month and a deposit of $15,000, (up from $10,000)

There is also the SRRV Courtesy visa, primarily intended for ex-military...

The conditions for the latter have just been updated:

- No proof of monthly pension is required

- A deposit of only $1,500 is required

- Eligible applicants are ex-military, Nobel prize winners(!) and .... retired Physicists!!

Huh???

So as I am a retired Physicist... I applied... and was accepted 🙂

So all I have to provide is the applicant fee (about $1,000), $1,500 deposit and a few documents - and I will be given a lifelong visa, no immigration reporting etc.  This visa will allow me to travel to Myanmar for my educational work, with no minimum residency needed in the PI to maintain the visa. I plan to pop over to do all paperwork when the burning season starts here in Laos.

I am now offering "Scientist Simon's fast track course to be a famous physicist", only $200 to receive your MSc certificate, courtesy of Kao San Road Printing Co. Ltd.......

That is a very narrow-minded viewpoint 🙄

I'm retired and have lived in Thailand for 14 years and WILL be getting that increase, in time.

Reason being that I am not currently receiving my UK state pension as I have not yet reached retirement age, but will do in 2029. So all these annual increases have been and will continue to compound until my SP kicks-in. I do have 35 years of NI contributions in place and have no intention of 'pretending' to live in the UK, so I accept the freeze if I stay here.

Still 3 years to decide if I wish to continue my retirement here in Thailand as they are not doing themselves any favours in terms of lack of a stable situation and the potential taxation impact with ever-changing and uncertain rules and reversals and speculation which forever hangs in the air.

So when it comes to decision-making for long-term staying foreigners, including me, any semblance of stability could not be further from the reality. I retired to simplify my life, not to make it unsettled, uncertain or more difficult and awkward. Fortunately I am single and shall remain that way.

And when you reach the age you wont get any increase. Deny it if you will, that is fine but the facts are the facts.

Try reading what people write, instead of coming across like a self-righteous plank.

Reading incorrect or not fully explained details is useless. I am stating what the DWP have told people. I think they are a more reliable authority than John who decided what it was.
