Maybe that's because you don't understand the psychology that's behind sleeping with one man after another for money. Men you wouldn't have anything to do with otherwise. That a prostitute is usually started at home during childhood, being abused and or neglected by people you're supposed to trust, some of them actually pushing you into the trade from guilt, or possibly being addicted through trafficking until it's all you know to do. Some people who use others will never see them as a victim but an object for only their own pleasure, which is a despicable way of thinking towards a gender you're supposed to have respect for, something that also starts at home.

I actually met a couple of girls who tried to go down the path of the bars and they couldn't get themselves to do it, despite being in serious debt and with children to feed. 

 

It's not for everyone. Some women cannot and/or will not ever do it, no matter what it pays and no matter what their financial situation is.

 

Also, yes a girl may have to choose between working at 7/11 for low wages and going into a bar, but that doesn't mean the 7/11 job is the only job she will ever have in her life. If she is patient ... surely there must be promotions within the 7/11 company to work in an office somewhere for better wages ... or there is some boyfriend who may come along at some point to help out financially. It's not always black and white that they should go work in a bar instead of a lower paying job. It's a choice. And they live with the consequences. If they're happy with it, good for them.

Until they're beaten, killed or get an STD they can't get rid of. Yeah, I guess that's better than doing a legitimate job you and your children would be proud of. There is a dark side to the employment market with not enough good quality high paying jobs.

One girl was working in a restaurant in Bangkok that shut down during Covid ... so into the bar she ended up.

 

And also why are so many of these women divorced in the first place? Cheating husbands ... and all the rest of it.

Not everyone can attain some ideal situation ... perfect marriage for life and decent job for life.

 

And what if some of it does stem from an abusive upbringing? Clearly, society does not have the resources to go into people's homes and fix this problem with an army of psychotherapists at affordable rates.

Yes, and it's the exact reason for the breakdown of society itself. Everything starts at home, and it's always the parent's responsibility first to guide their children in the right direction. Looking at the history of our planet, this is definitely not happening to the degree it should be.

I think the education system is too much theory not enough practical. Like for instance teach kids to change the oil on a car. Change the blades on a mower. Change a tyre. I know a 78yo dude who has never changed a tyre or mowed a lawn.

I don't see any teaching of my daughter when she's at her mom's. All she does is let her look at the phone. No trying to teach her any English, which is more important than any Thai she learns, which is 95% of what she hears here. No hygiene habits, letting her watch history on TV, helping her with her math homework, or respect for animals. This all comes from me. I see boys here that are looked at as kings, while the girls are taught to be slaves, doing all the work around the house. I taught all of my girls to work out, self defense, cooking, cleaning, hygiene habits and was always there for their school meetings, while their moms couldn't care less. An independent girl doesn't need a man but will want one. Helpless children grow into adults that need their moms.

My lawyer friend does the same thing, leave her kid with the grandma, common not just sex workers, which is just another job

It happens with over 35% of children in Thailand, but the sex workers are a much higher percentage that leaves their children elsewhere.
