Patong Bans Jewish New Year Event on Public Beach

Patong municipality has officially denied authorization for Jewish New Year celebrations to take place on Patong Beach. The date for the reported event was set for September 22–23, but the municipality clarified in a statement on Saturday that no such permission had been granted for religious activities on public property due to the sensitive nature of the issue.

This decision follows a letter from the Thai Friends of Palestine Club addressed to the Phuket governor. The club expressed opposition to the potential Israeli celebrations, warning that it could spark unrest in the region. They argued the event would contradict Thailand's stance on Israeli actions in Gaza and potentially escalate tensions in the Muslim-majority area.

Municipal authorities have advised organizers to relocate any planned private religious celebrations to secure, indoor venues. This recommendation aims to prevent possible conflicts and maintain Phuket's reputation as a tourism-friendly destination.

Key Takeaways

  • Patong Beach will not host Jewish New Year events due to sensitivity concerns.
  • Local clubs oppose the event, citing potential unrest in a Muslim-majority area.
  • Officials suggest moving celebrations indoors to maintain tourism appeal.

Israel is doing a pretty good job right now alienating the entire planet, making themselves into a pariah, showing that they are not a democracy on any level, and committing multiple forms of genocide

We should start a GoFundMe to support returning the land and paying reparations to Homo neanderthalensis who were driven out by Homo Sapiens.

Thieves don’t normally hand back that which they have stolen. In this particular instance it was taken with brute force and some ignorance.

Brute force and ignorance, you say ?

How about the summary and public execution of 3 of their own by Hamas in recent days...

Israel is doing a pretty good job right now alienating the entire planet, making themselves into a pariah, showing that they are not a democracy on any level, and committing multiple forms of genocide against their neighbors. It used to be that there were a few different organizations in the Middle East that committed terror, now Israel has taken up that mantle committing terror against six different nations in the region, and completely decimating Gaza while trying to eliminate the Palestinian population entirely as a neighbor.

It would appear to me as a Centrist American Jew that Israel has not learned much from the Holocaust.

True, with the help of the British, the Americans and the French governments.

All complicit in the same crime. There was plenty of room in the desert, instead of displacing another nation of it rightful home.

There's no question that America has a lot of historical blood on its hands with the treatment in particular of the Black man, Native Americans, and Mexicans. But you can argue that there was a historic precedent for winning a war and establishing new territory, which has not applied for a long time now. Many new treaties and agreements were established since WW 1 and WW2, and Israel is engaging in a spectacular breach of moral authority.

One hundred and seventy-six years ago today, at the end of the Mexican-American war, Mexico’s territory became 55% percent smaller and the United States’ territory grew by more than half a million square miles. What are now the states of California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, and parts of Arizona, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas and Wyoming, once Mexican soil, became United States territory.

Sadly, nothing is going to change while the majority of the world's population believes in the supernatural, and that's not going to change anytime soon.

That's pretty harsh. Where do you want the arabs to go? When the arabs migrated there from  the Arabian peninsula it was because they couldn't survive. And when the arabs settled in israel during the building of the Suez canal, it was because egypt didn't want them to remain.

The displacement occurred when the Arabs migrated in. much like what  they are doing in Europe, Canada and Australia now.

so by ur thoughts, since usa won the war they took the land from mexico, so if Israel wins the war,  same applies?
IF Russia wins the war against Ukraine, thye get the land?
what does the black man have to do with anything??

USA STOLE the Indians land and gave them BS treaties

LOOK< i agree Israel is and has been stealing Palestinian land BUT all these countries recognize Palestine as a state>
where is this said state? The occupied zone?  The west bank?

Who runs the government?

It highlights discrimination based upon religion. That's the prerogative of the Thais. I expect this was Chabad proposing the celebration. Very stupid on their part as they would be setting up jews  to be targeted and providing an opportunity for ignorant bigoted people to accuse  people of being baby killers. Thais should not complain when they are not allowed to undertake their idol worship or veneration of pictures, amulets and  other "magic"  in muslim nations.

Lesson learnt was that Jews need to defend themselves and not to rely on or expect any other Country to assist them

The Thais have been anti Israeli tourist for many years, it was common to see signs “ No Israelis” in the southern tourist islands in the past and more recently in Pai.

They seem to lack social awareness, are entitled and quite selfish generally speaking.

They are banned from many countries.

Since all religious events are not allowed on public land, no, you're wrong.

I think it was a huge mistake from us Brits to have given you guys Palestine/Israel.

It hasn’t really worked out, tens of thousands dead and millions displaced.

Give them an inch and they take a mile.

The British didn't give anyone anything. The British occupied the place after the Ottoman Empire collapsed. The British had no business sticking their noses into local affairs.

British didn't give anything to anyone .

British's just packed up their bags and went home in 1947 and left the mess for the U,N to sort out

Really? You haven't attended the Taoist festival and its barbaric piercing activity that occurs on public lands, How do you feel about the Eid Al-Adha event when the locals"sacrifice" a cow or goat in public, hacking a terrified animal to death in front of a braying mob?  At Christmas, Patong would put up its lame Christmas decorations and encourage people to go eat diarrhea inducing food and drink beer at the beach.

I don't think there was a need to  celebrate jewish new year in a public space, and it was rather stupid of whoever suggested it be done. My issue is the manner in which it was forbidden. The initiators should have just been told no and to have some common sense, instead of this being made into some political episode that allows the idiot bigots to come out from under their  rocks.
