I really think this is a perfect example of drawing a long bow and looking for a problem that isn't there. But even if you want to put the worst possible interpretation on it - is not what the FCC guy said the real issue - appalling and unwarranted. The De Niro bit worked well.

The FCC guy was getting a bit out over his skis, I agree. But in reality his input was not relevant. ABC/Disney had already decided on their course of action, based on the backlash that Kimmel's idiotic remarks had caused.  Especially when Kimmel refused to walk back his remarks, and was in fact planning to double down the next night. It really tied their hands.
