The Thai's are always fixing something. It's never fixed. Always around fixing something and making noise. The reason for this is that they fix it incorrectly so it has to keep getting fixed again.

that's called a game plan  ..    minimum 3 times  and usually involves multiple family members

as the saying goes ..     "Thank you  3 times !"

Glimmer of good news tonight. USD which was 1 to 31.xx baht past few weeks has strengthened to 32.10.

The Brits for one ruined their currency through racism which led to Brexit. However, despite being worst off, racism takes precedence.

If you say so bwana.

A stronger baht means foreign visitors need to spend more for goods and services, making Thailand comparatively more expensive.

I'm sure the baht can be adjusted to suit.

It's worked that way for the last few years

A nation's economy is not based on tourism alone.

Why do you persist in thinking that tourism should be the country's main source of income?

It's based on exports about 60% Tourism is also an export , so add about 15%

I think it is funny when people accuse the UK of being racist.

Not long ago we had a prime minister, he was not white, the current opposition leader of the conservative party is black yet we are racist, so funny.

Oh and the mayor of London is a muslim and is also not white, he has been the mayor for years and a politician for decades.

Now Thailand, that is racist. They call Africans monkeys, every news reader on TV are white, in fact they have to be very white skinned as do all the actors.

We farangs will never be seen as locals, no matter where we come from we are the same to them, there is no difference between Russians, Americans, Brits etc, we are all farangs.

I don't mind as Phuket is international and so it is good to be here, I have no problem with their racism, the airport is only forty minutes away.

But I do like Thailand and the racism makes me laugh.

In fact there is even a difference in Thailand depending on where you are from, people from Issan call the women in the South, Pooying Dam and the women in the south call women from Issan, Pooying Issan or just say the word Issan, or Pooying bar.

Tourism counts for between 10% to 18% of their GDP.

A stronger baht will hep reduce the costs of imports.

I doubt if a few quid extra spending money will put off most tourists, I would not go to Vietnam just so I can save a fiver.

Thailand is still dirt cheap for the average tourist.

Ergo...people are choosing Vietnam over Thailand (and they are) for reasons other than the dirt cheap motive.

The baht is weaker against the US$ today than it was five years ago.

I have a few visitors coming this year and next year to Thailand, the few quid will not put them off.

Maybe the lower end of tourists or backpackers may chooses Vietnam over a Thailand but I can't see it myself.

It is like saying I should buy a Big Mac instead of a Whopper from Burger King as it is cheaper, it is not the same quality though.

The same thing applies to Vietnam and Thailand, I doubt if the experience of visiting Phuket with all of its high end facilities can be available in Vietnam.

Incorrect......it is like saying that Vietnam has become a more attractive destination for many visitors.

Trust me, on my regular visits to Vietnam I didn't see any down and outs - or zero Dollar Chinese tourists.

Yes like I said above tourism is about 15 % (gdp) and is a services  export.  Then add to the goods exports 60% so both about 75% gdp. Yes a stronger baht is cheaper imports. Common knowledge. Yes as I said in previous post most folks don't worry the overvalued baht. But one of the reasons Vietnam is gaining tourists is the endless construction sh*tshows along the beaches in Thailand. Not sure what the point of your above reply is. And educate yourself doing searches on Nha Trang and Da NangIMG_20250924_093107.jpg.29e160cb70eaf186f5371ce787874133.jpg

I could offset your one or two negative images with hundreds of pictures taken of Thailand.

All I would have to do is get in my car and go to the many beautiful beaches here in Phuket.

Don't you think infrastructure has to be repaired in Thailand or do you think it repairs itself.

I am not sure what the point if of your one or two pictures trying to make it look like those pictures are representative of all of Thailand.

If I did not like Thailand then I would go elsewhere.

Jeeeeeeeeez.

An article about the strength of the Thai Baht affecting their tourism and somehow you shoehorn racism into it.

Loser.

I don't see any here in Phuket, most tourists seem to have money and are spending it as I can see in the very large shopping centres here.

One of them had to expand to twice its size and is linked by an enclosed foot bridge, now that would not have happened if there was no high end money here.

I should raise my opinion of the place.

It is thanks, it is also in Thailand with nine million visitors a year,  maybe they are all actors seeing as  everyone else has now chosen Vietnam as their dream destination over Thailand.

Phuket is reassuringly expensive and so the riff raff stay away.

Those photos are Jomtiem. Repair ? Look I don't have the patience to school folks who are oblivious to the endless city/contractors concrete kick backed projects cabal going on in this area. That lost the Europeans along Pattaya beach. Maybe educate yourself on the Pattaya sup forum- because you sure need it. And by the way how is the Phuket travel business going. And while your trying to catch up here. Searches for Nha Trang and Da Nang are assigned.

My point being - the UK had a very strong currency pre Brexit and racists taking over. So they would have been shielded from this volatility. But racists had to be racist and punish themselves.

Despite a sharp drop in February, the euro has gained significantly against the baht over one year.
Over five years, it is in the upper middle range.
The problem is therefore not strongly linked to the baht...

Sounds like a horrible place….all those racists and all.  I can imagine the stress it must cause you.

Perhaps moving back to India will soothe your soul.

We wouldn’t complain if they devalued the Baht.  Sure seems that’s what Vietnam effectively is doing with the Dong.

"They" like people who want to "get off" and "drink". It gives "them" more "energy". The "host" quickly recovers and needs to get "laid" again, followed by more "drinking". "Depletion" is primary, not the amount per "unit".

I'm pretty sure he's pakistani, he's violently anti-indian which they're known for.

My favorite through the years is the renovation of street surfaces, after reasphalt or concrete cover the utility services of the city then begin tearing up a part to upgrade their underlying pipes and then the electricity folks come in and break up another surface area to relay pipes for new wiring, and then the sewer folks arrive to tear up any part of the resurfaced road so that they can upgrade the sewer lines...et al.  Then the road returns to a bumpy ride.

My least favorite through the years is dental work.
