September 26, 2025Sep 26 File photo for reference only Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra volunteered to supervise sewage drainage as a form of public service while incarcerated, as confirmed by the Corrections Department. Earlier reports suggested that the department had assigned him this task, but it has now been clarified that Thaksin initiated the offer himself. The deputy spokeswoman for the department, Kanokwan Jiewchueaphan, emphasized that the proposal was entirely Thaksin’s idea and has not been officially approved or scheduled. Thaksin's daughter, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, previously mentioned her father was to be assigned work outside the prison during her visit to Klong Prem Central Prison. However, the department clarified that any such assignment is contingent upon meeting specific prison regulations. These rules require an inmate to have a sentence of no more than three years, have served at least one-third of their sentence, and be a first-time offender with good behavior. Thaksin has served less than a month of his one-year sentence related to corruption and abuse of power charges. Despite his willingness to volunteer, eligibility questions remain. An inmate must satisfy all conditions for their name to be proposed to an internal committee and then to the central Department of Corrections for final consideration. Kanokwan noted that if all criteria are met, the approval process commences, but Thaksin’s current status does not yet qualify him for the role. Meanwhile, Paetongtarn assured reporters of her father's good health and stable condition. She added that Thaksin's grandchildren might soon be able to connect with him through video calls. Key Takeaways Thaksin Shinawatra initiated the offer to do public service, not assigned by the department. Eligibility for such tasks involves meeting specific prison regulations, which Thaksin currently does not fulfill. His family reports he is in good health and may soon connect with family via video calls. September 27, 2025Sep 27 If Thaksin has to abide by prison regulations, what has not been answered, is he sleeping on the floor or does he have a comfy bed, especially now that Dr Paetongtarn has reported that her father is in good health and stable condition? Will we ever know the answer to that? I doubt it. Although having said that, I understand that there are no beds in any of the Thai prisons.

Swamp, sewage, mud, and filth, that's where Tony is truly in his element. He has been swimming in it all his life.
September 27, 2025Sep 27 I don't suppose that he thought it easier to flee when outside and grab a waiting plane to Dubai?

Utter rubbish (if you will excuse the expression!) When he was PM, us country bumpkins and Northerners (also much of the Thai population) throughout Lanna and Isaan enjoyed the benefits of various infrastructure investment projects in transport, agriculture, new businesses, telecommunications and tourism. Such an improvement in our quality of life. Thank you Mister Thaksin.

The Thai version of draining the swamp? If so, this is certainly a case of poacher turned gamekeeper (although the poacher was Lord of the Manor at the same time).

If you do think so, do you think the good deeds mentioned above by you excuse his "improper" behaviour?

Unless you lived permanently in Thailand throughout his two terms as PM, you will not understand the political hate down south for Mr T. He was a Northerner (from Chiang Mai) and was despised by the conspiring yellow shirt Bangkok dinosaur establishment. Pheu Thai was like a red rag to a bull (The yellow shirts) hence the current tensions. I also approve his exile in Dubai because he would never had got a fair trial at that time.
September 27, 2025Sep 27 I’m not usually the type to pick apart articles, but sometimes there seems to be no other option. Strange bits of “news” keep floating up, almost like from a sinkhole somewhere. Interestingly, these stories only started appearing a day after the real sinkhole appeared — not before. What really stands out are the unusual English captions. They feel more like eye-catching lines than genuine reports of fine-detailed, proper research. Posts like that may spread quickly — though thankfully, most don’t. Personally, I prefer to check the original Thai spoken by the ex–prime minister herself, from reliable video sources. Yet these exact statements are often hard to track down, even though plenty of people are eager to put her words on display. What I want — and what I keep searching for — are clear dates and timestamps: who said what, and when, in proper order. In one of the previous articles, there’s a clear mismatch with this article’s title. That says it all. As if reporters are walking around on cheap flip-flops. Bah! (it takes time to get used to the picture; the old man is really doing his best)

September 27, 2025Sep 27 One minute, he's seriously ill, and then five minutes later, he's in line for the position of sewerage foreman. I suppose, as foreman, he can clean up all the sewerage he has accumulated over his years in power,

September 27, 2025Sep 27 He volunteered to be a sewage supervisor which I assume means no manual labour or being anywhere near a sewer. If he really wanted to impress, why didn't he volunteer to be part of the chain gang and actually clean the sewers.
September 27, 2025Sep 27 I’m sure his daughter’s visit so frequently and probably bring some envelopes that should not be a problem that he has not served as sentence enough to be regarded as outside work permits I’m sure he’ll get all that clarified very soon TIT
