A 70-year-old American man died on the morning of 28 September after falling from the second-floor balcony of his home on Koh Phangan, Surat Thani province. The incident took place in Moo 7, Koh Phangan Subdistrict, where rescue teams and police officers from Koh Phangan Police Station responded. The man, identified only as Mr. Morris, was discovered by his wife, Mrs. Mali, who immediately alerted authorities.

According to the initial police report, Mr. Morris fell from a height of around five metres. He was found unresponsive at the scene and pronounced dead shortly afterwards. His body was transported for a formal autopsy, which later confirmed that the cause of death was consistent with injuries sustained from a fall.

Police investigators recorded Mrs. Mali’s statement, in which she explained that she had discovered her husband’s body after the fall. No signs of foul play were reported and the death is being treated as accidental.

Authorities confirmed that the case file, along with the autopsy report, will be completed before arrangements are made for the release of the body. The Koh Phangan Police stated that they are liaising with relevant agencies to support the deceased’s family.

Key Takeaways

• A 70-year-old American man died after falling five metres from his home balcony on Koh Phangan.

• His wife discovered the body and confirmed the events to local police.

• An autopsy confirmed death was caused by the fall, with no foul play suspected.

That went very quick. No investigation, whatsoever. Normally people do not fall from the balcony in their own home.

Sure, but possible? Think need to establish that a little bit better.

After reading so many balcony tragedies, I don't hang out on balconies ever.

Unless it was a balcony where it was impossible to fall over. But I haven't seen too many of those.

Maybe he has a connection to Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin whose associates seem to always fall out of open windows or off of balconies …

Maybe you could have a safety harness whenever you feel like relaxing in the balcony?

The Balcony railings at some of these Condo's is dangerously low, a few Beers  and maybe a Balance problem at 70 years  of age, and over you go.....  RIP Mr ..,

Or had some help?

I dont think there is any regulations regarding the height of balcony railings here in Thailand, in my house they are 1 meter high, not easy to fall over, I do know of a resort here were the balcony's are at an height you can sit on, some years ago I know a guy who fell backwards off but didn't die but was badly injured,

Many are below waist height on a 6' man

Is there such a thing as Building inspectors here in Thailand? as an example I know of a condo project, they never went there, I could tear it to pieces, You can access the roof top easily and walk around there is no fencing or parapet wall around it, they advertise it as a view point to all the islands, yes you can but at what cost?

I agree totally, the balcony railing on our rented condo in BKK terrified me, 10 floors to a "soft"  landing on grass.

But what about -

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

So many unsafe balconies in Thailand. Lack of building regulations and building inspectors appears to be the problem? Or am I missing something?

Was she Thai ? .....why did she not have his surname ?

I'm over 6 foot.  In the 18 years I've lived in Bangkok, I've yet to see a balcony that was low enough for me to fall over, unless I climbed up and intended to go over.

Havent been to Bangkok.

In most hotels I stayed at, balconies were too low.

At the gym I go to, it's on the 2nd floor and there is a low balcony. If someone in the gym is holding a grudge because I didn't wipe off the machine after use, they could theoretically push me off.

I am afraid of heights in general. Low balconies + heights creep me out.

Hardly.

"falling five metres from his home balcony"

I am trying to understand the relevance of the OP photo with the police officer forcefully explaining GCSS (Glasgow Coma Scale Score) to an unidentified person.🤔

Maybe he was depressed and dived over the balcony

Flying Falang season has started a little early this year, probably down to global warming
