Danang is beautiful but don't expect the nightlife to be the same, it is a Communist country.

Prices are cheaper on a lot of things but some are around the same.

People are friendly and the food is good and it is safe. 

Having worked for several years in the South of Vietnam, regular R n R in HCMC on my way to and from home in Thailand, I couldn't recommend Vietnam over Thailand. 

I have gone off the Philippines,having been there three times !!

The only left to look at is Cambodia

But is it easier place to live for elderly lonely men? Of course being disabled physically and mentally can be a challenge in Pattaya or anywhere in Thailand, so 

 

if I was single I would live in Condochain in Hua HIn, where you got everything close by and great view as well. Dirt old building, but still a ok place, and they have actually did some fasade renovations as I could see last time I walked the beach.

Well I get blood tests every few months.

I know it's around the 1500 baht $75 AUD in Thailand,in Australia it's free (except the GP consultation to get it)

unless your on welfare ,pension unemployment etc then you can use a "bulk billing " doctor who charges the government 

 

Otherwise it's around $65 (1200b)  after Government rebate ,what a ripoff for his rushed 3 minutes !
