A devastating fire in Rayong claimed the lives of seven people from the same family when flames engulfed a row of townhouses in the early hours of 2 October. The blaze, believed to have started from an electrical short circuit, destroyed four homes and left three others injured from smoke inhalation.

Emergency services were called at around 02.30 to the scene in the municipal area of Rayong city. Fire crews took 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control, but the townhouse where the fire began was completely destroyed.

Inside, rescuers discovered seven victims, four adults and three children, who had been trapped on the second floor, where they were sleeping. Some were found huddled together in their final moments.

The victims were identified as;

Ms. Ladda 52

Mr. Sarawut 32

Ms. Dararat 29

Ms. Nan 28

The children have initially been reported a being aged 4, 2 and with the youngest being a 1 year old.

Witnesses reported hearing screams, before flames rapidly consumed the house. Despite neighbours’ efforts to fight the fire, the inferno spread to three adjoining properties before firefighters contained it. Officials said an investigation is underway, with preliminary findings pointing to an electrical fault as the cause.

Extremly tragic. I just find i a bit strange that no-one of the fighting neighbors or family member could save anyone, as it started in one section and spread to 3 more.

Absolutely tragic.

I can only speculate on this sad tragedy, but was their escape stopped by bars on the windows? ...futhermore when a fire starts priority is to warn & evacuate people in the building immediately. ....do people know this?

This is why working smoke detectors and possible CO2 detectors are important.  When sleeping possible to not realize it's happening before it is to late.

RIP.

The self preservation level in Thailand is extremely low- no helmets, no seatbelts, overloaded pickup trucks, speeding in the rain, so for a fami to buy smoke/carbon detectors wou be waaauy down on the list ….

a little bit of preventive thinking was needed...Unfortunately, absent in this culture...no difference than my neighbors walking/biking at night w/o any lights on around our moobaan....why? can't one see a dark object at night ON the street?

Scares me seeing all these windows barred and balconies caged in.

First thing I do anywhere is have a PEP in mind.

Bought all my kids escape ladders, smoke hoods and smoke alarms.

Every time they stay in a hotel I'm on their backs to ensure they know how to escape.

I worked in a hotel.....only five floors. There was a fire and 14 people jammed into the lift on the fifth floor. All cooked alive.
