October 6, 2025Oct 6 I seem to have them all night, Deepseek says it's a good indicator of health and hormones, interesting read: Having erections during sleep is a strong indicator of a healthy nervous system, good blood flow, and proper hormonal function. It's a sign that the basic biological machinery required for erectile function is working correctly. --- The Scientific Explanation: Sleep-Related Erections These nighttime erections are formally known as Nocturnal Penile Tumescence (NPT). · They Happen to Every Healthy Male: From infancy to old age, most males experience 3 to 5 erections per night during sleep, each lasting between 25-35 minutes. · Tied to Sleep Cycles: They are most closely associated with the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) stage of sleep, which is the stage when we do most of our dreaming. However, they can occur in other sleep stages as well. · An Automatic Process: These erections are not necessarily linked to erotic dreams. They are an automatic, cyclic process controlled by the brainstem and other parts of the central nervous system. What It Tells You About Your Health 1. Neurological Health The process is initiated by the brain during sleep, bypassing conscious thought. The fact that it happens shows that the nerve signals traveling from your brain, down the spinal cord, and to the blood vessels in the penis are intact and functioning properly. 2. Vascular Health An erection is primarily a hydraulic event—it requires a strong inflow of blood and an effective mechanism to trap it. Regular nighttime erections are an excellent "stress test" for your blood vessels, indicating that your arteries are open and flexible and that the veins are closing off properly. 3. Hormonal Health Testosterone levels naturally peak during sleep, and this hormone plays a key role in facilitating erections. While it's not the only factor, consistent NPT suggests your hormonal balance is likely within a normal range. The Clinical Significance: A Diagnostic Tool This is why doctors take note of nighttime erections. They are a crucial differentiator between two main types of erectile dysfunction (ED): · Psychogenic ED: If a person can get erections normally during sleep but has difficulty during waking hours, the root cause is likely psychological or situational. This could include: · Stress, anxiety, or depression · Performance anxiety · Relationship problems · Physiological (Organic) ED: If a person has a significant reduction or complete absence of nighttime erections, the cause is likely physical. This could point to: · Vascular disease (e.g., atherosclerosis, high blood pressure) · Neurological damage (e.g., from diabetes, spinal cord injury) · Hormonal imbalances (e.g., low testosterone) · Side effects of certain medications Important Note: A decrease in nighttime erections does not automatically mean you have a serious disease. Fatigue, sleep deprivation, and age can reduce their frequency and rigidity. However, a persistent and noticeable absence is a good reason to consult a doctor. Common Questions Answered · "I don't remember having them, does that mean I'm not having them?" No. Most men are asleep and unaware of their nighttime erections. You might only notice them if you wake up in the middle of one, or as a morning erection. · "Do they stop as you get older?" The frequency and rigidity may decrease slightly with age, but healthy men continue to have them throughout their lives. A complete stop is not a normal part of aging and should be discussed with a doctor. · "What if I have them but still have trouble with erections when awake?" This is a classic sign of a psychological or stress-related issue (Psychogenic ED). It's a very positive sign that your body's physical equipment is working, and the problem may be addressable through therapy, stress reduction, or communication with your partner. Summary In a nutshell, having erections while sleeping tells you that your body's "hardware" (nerves, blood vessels, and hormones) is in good working order. It is a normal, healthy, and expected part of male physiology. Noticing them is a positive sign, while a sudden and persistent absence could be an important early warning sign of an underlying health issue.

According to the opening post not linked to erotic dreams I can't believe you have to go on a forum to ask these questions. Of course, libido and function decline with age. Everything does. Your brain shrinks too, which is a more serious condition of ageing than worrying about your nightly erections. Here's something I learned about nighttime erections. They are essential to keep your member in prime condition as they are necessary to supply blood to the penile tissue to keep it healthy. The penis does not get good blood flow in the flaccid state, during the day. Not having enough sleep will ruin your penile health. I went 4 -5 years on 3 - 5 hours of sleep a night, and it had a big negative impact on my erectile function.
October 7, 2025Oct 7 I'm also having rock hard erections in the morning these days. It is indeed a sign of good vascular health. And yes, as you approach BritManToo's age they will disappear more likely, age will affect the quality of erections.

The nightly erections could just be because he has enough urine in his bladder to cause the erection. I think he should be grateful he can still get it up, albeit only during his sleep. Haha.. Just kidding .

I can train hard for 1- 2 hours. Veins pop like Google maps on arms and feet, yet my penile health is compromised. I put it down to lack of sleep for many years. If you don't sleep enough or long enough, you don't have time for erections at night, which are necessary to keep the penile tissue healthy. I've since started sleeping better, but the damage was done. It still works, but not as it did before. I'm 66, but I notice not many people are mentioning their age here, which is very important in such a discussion. Also, testosterone levels are key, but not the only key.

I do not train at all. My sleep was quite bad previously due to airflow problems in my nose and throat but have since gotten that fixed. My erections are as hard as a tree and I have sex 2 times a day, sometimes more and this is everyday. I still wake up some nights though with an erection like the poster in the OP. But it is not from lack of sex the day or night before. Usually, i take advantage of it though and have sex in the middle of the night. I think my wife has gotten used to me waking her up at 2 or 3 am to have sex and actually enjoys it more and gets wetter even at our age. I am well over 60 now. With spinal injuries as well which have not deterred my sex drive. Only my cum amount got decreased from that injury. I also cut my tubes so am unable to make children now. With 7 of them I do not think i need to repopulate the planet with more. But after cutting those tubes my sex drive increased even more. It may not be your problem is testosterone or your age. It may well be possible it is your mindset as well.

There is very good generic Sildenafil and Tadalafil available in Thailand. The patents on Viagra and Cialis expired years ago, and there's no way I'm going to support them at their absurd prices.

My testosterone is good as I'm on TRT, but I spend most of my energy in the gym, so that does lower my sex drive - that I know for sure. High blood sugar could also be a contributing factor, and it's the biggest reason why I exercise vigorously every day. I don't want to use diabetic medicine.

Stop them for 1 month see what happens lol Zinc also plays a crucial role in maintaining penile redox balance and upregulating erectogenic enzymes. Studies show that zinc co-treatment improves erectile function in rats exposed to highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) by suppressing anti-erectogenic enzymes such as acetylcholinesterase, phosphodiesterase-5, and arginase, while increasing levels of key erectogenic markers like nitric oxide (NO), cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), and dopamine. Zinc's antioxidant properties help reduce penile oxidative stress and inflammation, which are known contributors to erectile dysfunction.
