Usually I will avoid sitting anywhere near smokers.

its a pity some others who dislike tobacco smoke are not so sensible and considerate. Same goes for some smokers, personally if I intend to smoke I avoid the presence of non smokers

What a pity we need laws and regulations to deal with this issue when common sense and politeness should suffice

One doesn't want to laugh or bash the leaders but they provide constant laugher to their ideas each hour, days it is just non stop!🤣

It isn't the smoking their problem!

People throughout the world know of Chiang Mai's air pollution due to farm burning, some years so bad visibility is very meaningfully reduced.  The air pollution seriously impacts local tourism and property values.  No enforcement of burning laws, but instead Thailand will focus on those cigarette smokers who appear intent on destroying the environment (sic), one cigarette at a time.  Doesn't Thailand already have no smoking rules for restaurants and other public gathering areas??

Hehe , leave DMAX out of it.

My 18 years old doesn't have black smoke coming out.

Blue smoke?

Not sure what you're trying to say, I assume you are a smoker, and don't give a rat's about others around you, please correct me if wrong.

I'm saying vaping is safer than smoking, but they made vaping illegal. Does your thick Aussie head understand that?

I want to see tobacco made history. But I wonder if the black smoke that comes from so many badly maintained diesel engines is not causing much more damage.

Bangkok, hosting over 1.2 million smokers and attracting 32.4 million tourists annually, faces significant risks from secondhand smoke exposure.

Governor Chadchart emphasized the importance of these measures follow.

Me think as an ex smoker that the Vehicle Fumes  and diesel smoke are By Far worse then the smoke from a Few ciggies .

It seems likely that in the very near future, there might even be restrictions on public farting

Why not make it illegal to suck on a tail pipe?

When were you last bothered by second hand cigarette smoke? Do tell. I'd have thought Thailand to have rather strict smoking rules.

All the time at the bar, I enjoy playing pool and eating and seems every 2nd person is enjoying cheap smokes and doesn’t care about anybody else, plus don’t get me started on the night clubs!

Cigarette smoking contributing to pollution is another Thai brain joke analysis.
Motorcycle no mufflers and old vehicles are majority of the problem cause

Not in public places they aren't.  Ban smoking in all public areas ,shops ,restaurants etc, nothing worse than some ignorant person blowing smoke all over your table

Words are easy enforcing it is the problem, to complain could get a person stabbed to death in Thailand.

This is what you get when people buy their positions of power. Complete empty headed idiots.

Like the US?

About time. I'm sick of selfish dimwits illegally smoking in bars and restaurants.

I think we can all agree that politeness is in short supply these days, all around the planet. Though I do find most Thais to be far more polite than many in other nations.

The usual suspects will interpret that as being an anti-Western statement. I guess that would mean something to me if I cared one iota with they thought.

Air pollution has nothing to do with cigarettes!!!

I am surprised. Thailand's laws seem strict and in my experience the restrictions are observed.

Then leave?

I never heard so many people try to justify further bans on having a wee smoke. Hello wake up your original capital Chiang Mai,

Here's a quote from a visitor 7 months ago:

"

I’m a parent currently staying in Chiang Mai to accompany my child who’s studying here. The PM2.5 levels have been dangerously high almost every day lately, and I’m really worried about the long-term effects on our health — especially for children.

We’ve been staying indoors with air purifiers running 24/7, and we try to wear masks whenever we go outside. But honestly, it feels like it’s not enough. My child has been coughing a lot, and even I feel short of breath sometimes.

Are there any safe places nearby to escape to for a short break? How are other families coping with this? I’d also like to know if any local action or pressure is being taken to address this problem more seriously.

Any advice, insights, or shared experiences would be really appreciated. Thanks and take care!"

And you are worried about a smoko???

This non-smokers opinion also.  Address the source not the smokes.

Vaping?

Now look up Poe’s law and cringe…

A 20 man enforcement team to cover all of Bagkok? That should work!

Mate, if you weren't so thick you could have explained your comment, anyway, none capers don't want your by-products...smoke as much as you like just don't force it upon others...I might be thick, but I'm far better than you...stick that in ya pipe, and smoke it...in private. <deleted>

It’s not binary. The pm 2.5 issue doesn’t excuse or condone the unpleasantness of acrid cigarette smoke wafting by your face every exhale. Using your analogy how about a wee "farto" from someone adjacent entering your nostrils regularly?

Bangkok authorities have announced a stricter enforcement of public smoking laws to safeguard residents and tourists from secondhand smoke. Health advocate Dr. Prakit Vathesatogkit and Chayanan Sithibusaya of the Tobacco Products Control Office met with Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt to address indoor air pollution caused by cigarette smoke. The move responds to long-standing gaps in enforcement of anti-smoking laws first enacted in 1992.

They just don't get it do they?

While second hand cigarette smoke can be a nuisance it pales into insignificance when following a vehicle that's belching out black smoke, or passing a construction site and inhaling a lung-full of dust.

Burning of Fields:  The burning of Sugar Cane has been reduced dramatically in the last year, and more Thais are cutting and harvesting Green.

Forest Fires: Here where I live in Kamphaeng Phet on the major highway (AH 1) heading North and South from Bangkok to Chaing Mai/Chaing Rai, the fires I see occur where people throw out lighted cigarettes. The medians and the adjacent forest catch on fire and are put out by local small firetrucks. The mountains around here are on fire from lightning strikes from the dry underbrush.

Really.....we have, as family, 200 acres of sugarcane.

Every leaf is burned, as they are in all neighbouring fields as far as the eye can see.

If the farmers don't burn....what are they doing with the mountains of leaves?

Fag smoking is something that should conducted in private between cosenting adults.  Sitting in a bar or open bar, behind some inconsiderate smoker, leaves you stinking of their waste puffed smoke, not to mention the smouldering fag which spends 90% of its 'life' sitting on the ashtray polluting the air !!

Compost.

Never in my 30 years have I seen a single farmer compost sugarcane leaves.
