Police in Phuket have arrested three people for illegally selling firecrackers and fireworks near the Saphan Hin area, following complaints from residents about noise and public disturbance. The arrests form part of a wider crackdown on unauthorised fireworks sales ahead of the annual Vegetarian Festival.

On October 12, Pol Col Chatri Chukaew, Superintendent of Mueang Phuket Police Station, instructed Pol Lt Col Ratchaphat Buakaew, Deputy Inspector of the same station and Pol Lt Prawech Mueangram, along with patrol officers, to conduct patrols targeting illegal firework vendors. The operation aimed to prevent accidents and disturbances often linked to unlicensed firecracker sales.

Officers apprehended three individuals found selling fireworks and firecrackers without official permission in the Saphan Hin public area. Various types of fireworks were confiscated as evidence, and all suspects were taken to Mueang Phuket Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Police said the arrests were part of a proactive public safety campaign to curb the sale and use of fireworks during the 2025 Vegetarian Festival, when noise and fire hazards typically increase. Authorities have reminded the public that the sale, possession, or use of fireworks without proper authorisation is prohibited under both Thai law and local regulations and may result in fines or imprisonment.

The operation follows growing concerns from residents living near Saphan Hin, who have always reported repeated disturbances caused by loud firecrackers in the days leading up to the festival. Officials said further inspections and patrols will continue throughout October to ensure public safety and prevent similar incidents.

Key Takeaways

• Three people were arrested in Phuket for selling firecrackers without a licence near Saphan Hin.

• Police seized fireworks and are pursuing charges as part of a pre-festival safety campaign.

• Crackdowns will continue to ensure safety during the annual Vegetarian Festival.
