A 50-year-old Thai woman from Udon Thani lost 30,000 baht after falling victim to a fraudulent matchmaking service claiming to find her a foreign husband. The victim, identified only as Jip, filed a complaint at Mueang Udon Thani Police Station, presenting CCTV footage and other evidence against the suspect. The incident has since drawn public attention as an example of growing online relationship scams targeting women seeking foreign partners.

Jip, who had previously been married and divorced twice, said she turned to online matchmaking services in the hope of finding stability with a foreign man. She discovered a Facebook page called “Madam Sai For” (มาดามสายฝอ), which advertised foreign husband matchmaking. The page administrator, a woman identified as Ann, arranged to meet Jip at her home to explain the service and requested a total payment of 70,000 baht, with a 30,000 baht deposit required upfront.

After paying the deposit, Ann promised to introduce Jip to a British man and left her house in a black car with another individual. However, when the arranged meeting date arrived, Ann was unreachable. She blocked Jip’s Facebook and phone contacts, cutting off all communication. Security camera footage captured both Ann’s face and the registration plate of the car she used, which Jip handed over to police as key evidence.

Police confirmed that the case is under investigation, with officers attempting to trace the suspect believed to reside in Si That District, Udon Thani. Jip stated that she would consider dropping the case if the money was returned but would proceed with legal action otherwise. She decided to share her experience publicly to warn other women about similar scams.

In a separate but related incident, another woman from Nong Han District, identified as Saisunee, was reportedly defrauded of 100,000 baht by a similar matchmaking scheme two months earlier. Authorities have not yet apprehended the suspect in that case either. Police have urged members of the public to be cautious when approached by individuals or online agencies offering marriage arrangements with foreigners, stressing the importance of verifying identities and avoiding advance payments.

Investigations are ongoing, with officers working to identify and locate Ann and any associates involved in the scam. Victims are being encouraged to come forward to strengthen the case and help prevent further fraud.

Red flag right there.

Still learning here.  Can't find stability with a Thai partner?  I hope she finds a partner, it's not easy depending on where you live.  My experience is some people are more gullible and susceptible to Scams.  Unfortunately with AI and the internet these scams are as common as an ad selling a legitimate product.

Thailand not called the land of Scams for nothing 😱

Just seems a  never ending story here 😕

These women are paying tens of thousands of baht to introduced to gentlemen like me.

My friends back in the UK don’t believe me when I tell them that Thai women are lining up for me.

Don't want to be too harsh because loneliness can be mentally devastating to all but the strong minded, or those who choose solitude (not loneliness) in a stoic manner, but if you are still falling for these romance scams just to find this guy/girl that barely exists now (especially if you are over 40 as a woman), then you need to wake up and do some introspection. It's possible to find love, but that doesn't included sending money to people you barely know... and takes a long time to be convincing. No reason to open your wallet unless you are getting tangible returns... not stuff that just vanishes into the ether once transfered and doesn't get mentioned again.

It works both ways and plenty of middle-aged women get scammed as well as men... especially older foreign expats that rock up and think this young women "loves them" and is "different"... it's a very well rehearsed and slickly perfected scam, and many fall for it.

I hope the police find her and do the right thing.

I still can't figure out how stupid they are, or they have to much money

That's what dating apps are for. Free. You may need to kiss a few frogs, but just use your common sense. Just be truthful, it helps build trust.
