Not applicable.

Parked taxis are obstructions, not slow-moving vehicles.

You may cross the double yellow to go around.

They still after decades of driving have not figured out parking. There's really no hope.

They were doing it this morning. A songtaew stopped for the crew and a few guys on motorbikes rode around it and nearly hit the painters.

I guess the double line stretches are the more dangerous parts where no overtaking is allowed, motorbikes are constantly overtaking, avoiding a head on by a second happens constantly there.

The yellow centre lines do not mean "No overtaking", they mean "No crossing the yellow lines".   Passing other vehicles is permitted on your own side of the lines.

Have you any idea how ridiculous that sounds in practise where there is less than 2 car widths in-between the curb/buildings and the yellow lines........

The only reason I think they do it now is because it is either the end or beginning of the budget allocation in October for the local Tessabahns - I can never remember which....appears they want to use up some budget?

No, I don't.  Crossing into the path of oncoming traffic is a lot more ridiculous than overtaking safely on your own side of the road.

We are not in NZ, SIN nor Scandinavia but in Thailand.

Makes a difference to the official who has budgetary approval rights to have the job ordered. Two stripes of paint means double the money so no point to have only one painted. No line would mean no money and three would look too weird to catch unnecessary attention. So two it's got to be. Whether the paint job will have any factual benefits to road users is meaningless. TiT.

There is a section road with 3 solid yellow center lines on the way into Chiang Rai from Chiang Mai.  Its a curved sloped section, and loaded pickups and buses still overtake in both directions. I know this post is about Pattaya, but some contractor in Chiang Rai figured out how to sell another stripe.

You obviously haven't visited Buakhao

Was the motorbike speeding or was the guy looking the wrong way when crossing or not looking at all, which is very common with idiots on that street.

Heck no, crawling traffic, a pedestrian walking in the road, and an impatient WIN driver.

Lines on the road mean diddly squat and are a waste of paint,  like old soldiers they simply fade away!

The same meaning for their white lines also... I once got forced to pay a bribe for crossing the single white line.

In Thailand, a single solid white line separates lanes of traffic moving in the same direction and indicates that changing lanes is prohibited. A double white line (also called a "double solid white line") means the same thing, prohibiting lane changes or overtaking in either direction.

  • Single solid white line:
This line separates lanes of traffic going in the same direction and is used to discourage lane changes and overtaking. You should stay in your lane unless it's absolutely necessary to cross for safety or a legal maneuver like a right turn into a property.
  • Double white line:
This is a stricter version of the single solid white line, also separating traffic moving in the same direction. It also prohibits lane changes and overtaking, emphasizing the need for drivers to stay within their lane.

Look at everything happening in the world and you want to talk about a line in the street. 🤣

Next month I am there and I am so excited 😆

Excited because your normal life must be boring

Start doing things ,compiling statistics etc

They've now added a white line as if to create a footpath/walkway which many drivers are ignoring too.

Is this like the yellow line in Eden? Will the whole of Pattaya organise themselves like this?

This one is going to be far more controversial, than the double yellows.

I guess we have our Indian friends to thank for this one 👍

There must be a lot of paint about, they've done the roads around me in Bangkok.  Most dangerous of all is the pedestrian crossing they've painted at a busy T-Junction.  Naturally all the drivers pay no attention at all but some foolish pedestrians have been using it thinking it's a real thing.

Wow. Darwin certainly would this to fit to his theory, but wonder if it is a product of learning, or maybe just a product of a random mutation that in coming years and decades will spread over the country, Either way, coming generations of govt officials will be thanking it for their improved livelihoods and it will be regarded as an essential element of local culture.

Along same lines, one day we might see traffic lights with parallel multiples of red, yellow and green lights in a single traffic light pole as well.

Also, the white car on the right next to Subway is going the wrong way on the one-way street.

Yeah, kinda the point of my post.

City hall should just remove the pavements/sidewalks from Soi Buakkhao to enable free flowing traffic.

I don't recall sidewalks on Buakhao.  A lot of people try to walk on that street and it's chaos with the traffic.

There are a few places with "sidewalks". Some more usable than others.

One such is in front of Treetown but still you see many people walking in the road.......almost as if they have a death wish.......:coffee1:

Nothing will improved if you don't remove those "objects" like food carts, insane number of motorbike, ladies sitting outside their bars etc.

Crowding, traffic, pollution...

Some of the reasons why I have no plans.

Good for some pool and fun days.

Probably get as much respect as the disabled lane on soi Yume.

Well, the truth is, it's working: cars, motorcycles, and food carts must park outside the white line, and the area between the white and yellow lines is reserved for vehicle traffic, which is now barely interrupted, except for brief stops by songtaews to load and unload passengers.

I was there last night, and traffic was much more fluid, and curiously, everyone was respecting the rule of parking outside the white lines, and almost no one was overtaking across the yellow lines.

Do you think it will last? The one way streets like soi Honey are not so strictly enforced now. Many motorcycles and a few mobile businesses going the wrong way as I went down there yesterday, Without policing these things just  get ignored!

The Op has a "thing" about trivial rules. It makes sense that he is having a hard time getting his head around the line. It's easier with some flexibility.
