American Rider and Thai Woman Killed in Jomtien Crash

Featured Replies

Engine size does not matter you can be on a 50cc or a 1,000 cc hit a pole or a tree at 20kms your Toast. Speed and impact kills. Riding in Urban areas with lecky Poles and trees should tell you to take care wet slippery roads with manholes or grills avoid if wet. How mant locals come a cropper using front breaks when the road surace is slippery with rain and diesel or oil deposited on the road becomes a skid pan. Experiance tells you how to master these conditions.

  • High speed motorcycles in Pattaya ridden by idiotic foreigners killed Larry and Barry yesterday.

  • There is nothing wrong with the stretch of road except the turn, which is not excessively sharp.   This is purely a case of an inexperienced rider on an overly powerful bike.

  • No it was an idiot who rented a bike he could not handle and opened it up on the straightaway leading to that sharp curve where he lost control and killed an innocent Thai woman who was unlucky enough

No amount of experience will prevent an accident when you are going too fast to react.  Could be a pothole or sand or a soi dog or another driver.  Speed kills,  Doesn't matter how good you think your driving skills are.

They're in a better place now, a world without power hunger greedy disgusting humans. R. I. P.

Experienced riders get killed every day believing that their experience will save them.

Inexperienced riders can revel in the thrill of a powerful and very quick motorcycle but in less than three seconds they can find themselves way out of their depth.  This causes mental overload and they simply don't know how to react appropriately, i.e. throttle closed, slow down quickly,  and turn gently if required, (in that order) so they frequently hit whatever they are looking at in front of them.

It takes time and experience to get used to the performance dimension that a fast bike can provide, and to use it judiciously and appropriately.  If vendors are hiring Yamaha R7s to tourists who do not need to provide evidence of an appropriate licence or experience it is catastrophically irresponsible.

I've ridden motorbikes for 48 years, including some superbikes, but now use my experience to ride slower bikes safely here in rural Thailand.

Sad stuff. But the way people ride their motorbikes here, it surprises me that I don't see roadkill every 10 feet.

The police do absolutely nothing to stop the horrible driving.

I feel sorry for the ladies who have to get on the back of the bikes of these bozo's, this one caused her death

Totally agree. The Thai woman Ms. Ketsarin put her life in this stupid man's hand, who most likely rode like a fool to impress her. May her wings fly to a higher place without that idiot!

I was only joking with a guy a few months ago, That everybody I knew with a big Ducati bike is dead around where I live,

Luckily they only killed themselves with their reckless, dangerous, irresponsible speeding.

If only this article could have been printed 24 hours before it happened and both involved read it.  RIP and prayers for their surviving families.

Extremely sad

I don't like it when they post accident pictures

One could get PTSD by seeing this

So many farangs  on bikes here are not experienced, you can tell when they go round a corner with both legs dangling, a sure sign of inexperience, and not trusting the bike

At the same time wearing flip-flops, crazy

Are you sure F = mv/2t?

I am only sure that F=mv/2t introduces an adjustment factor, which might be helpful in the present road accident scenario, and for use in evaluating automotive safety in various situations.  Think of it as sort of a......FUDGE FACTOR.....OK?

Have you ever ridden a motorcycle?

Yes, I have.

Strange that you should ask me such a thing, given that I have created one or two glorious Topics on the subject.

I once, long ago, had two CB450 bikes.  The Hondas were not bad for the time... 1971  or  1970.

Residents believe the combination of high speed and the sharp bend contributes to the frequent incidents, though some dismiss any superstitions and blame driver error.

Oh. They're so stupid.
Bad spirits live in this place. You just need to set up a small house there with offerings for the evil spirits, and everything will be fine.

Why did you say limit bikes to 30cc.  That would make a bike unridable.

No helmets I presume?

When you go straight into a tree at high speed, the helmet isn't going to make a difference.

For most other circumstances they're useful.

OK so what's up guys? I'm genuinely curious now. Are there people here in support of the tourists that rent those bikes and drive out of control then kill people?

They, their?

Only one of them was responsible for the reckless, dangerous, irresponsible speeding.

My comment has received several negative replies, as I thought it would.  However, I wonder what the posts on the story would have been if, instead of slamming into a tree at high speed, they had slammed into a family walking on the sidewalk, killing 4, including a 6-months old baby.   When you are operating a vehicle that can easily maim or kill, you need to act responsibly at all times.  I stand by my comment and I'm glad no innocent bystanders were killed.

Do they all have the appropriate licence for the rented big bikes ? Of course, the rental shop is never involved. Unless of course it's also a foreigner.

About 50 daily nationwide.

But no reports on English language sites.

Too much hormones.  No reason to have such a big bike in Thailand, to many dangers.  Young & Stupid. I rode for 30 years in the US on a touring bike only 1 accident not my fault, hurt my knee, was wearing a riding suit and Simpson helmet.  Insurance paid for a new bike. Only used the bike for touring, used a car for city driving. These people had no common sense.  Never road a bike in Thailand. Way too dangerous. Been here 13 years, 74 years old.

Kenyon was not killed by a speeding bike being ridden idiotically.

Just now, Liverpool Lou said:

What happened?

I heard he was hit by a big bike ridden by a foreigner who slammed him on a median strip.

You know different?

Two back to back motorcycle deaths.

One of them was a crossing-the-road-at-the-wrong-place death.
